classrooms are sometimes
not the best, recalling
teaching in a room where the
glass was falling out of the
window for want of some
paint, the drapes 'Were
dilapidated and the room
badly in need of fresh paint.
He said he often told his
students he wouldn't "put a

system suffers," he claimed.

grade teachers on the job. He
said he recalled inspectors
coming to his class and
checking the register, looking
over the day book and
checking the cupboards.
He said some inspectors
tend to be picky, being more
concerned about how neatly
_feathers write on the black-
board than how students are
progressing in their
schooling. He recalled one
teacher's inspection report
that said the crease on his
pants was poor.

Teaching' also had its 'just
rewards for Phil Main who
said that he always enjoyed
working• with the young
people. He said he found
tremendous satisfaction
working with kids and
establishing a rappott with
them. He said he couldn't put
into words the feeling he got
when a student started. the
year an under:achiever and
finished an over -achiever.
Main said his own personal
goals in -teaching also added
to his departure from the
profession. He said he always'
