Many people, Mrs. Kaitting
feels, lead narrow lives. She
has a very strong opinion
about this.
"I like belonging to things. I
think that's the key to
satisfied living. You're
meeting people. You have a
_broader outlook. Then you're
not brooding over your own
problems," she says.
Mrs. Kaitting believes that
by helping others unselfishly,
you are helping yourself.
People who can't be bothered
joining activities and helping
others are "missing the boat"
as far as she is concerned. By
being active and belonging to
things, Mrs. Kaitting says she
can look back on her life and
see that it hasn't been lived in
vain.
"I've had a wonderful life,"
she says. She has worked
hard and has also had her fun.
She says hard work certainly
didn't ever hurt her.

BORN IN
HURON COUNTY
Mrs. Kaitting was born in
.Crediton, Ontario. Fo11wing
high school she went to
Clinton business college to
train as. a stenographer. After
that she had a summer job in
Toronto but the employment
situation was not good in the
city at that time. So, she
returned home • to Crediton
where the job situation was
even worse.
Her grandparents lived in
Goderich and when she was
18 she came to Goderich with
her mother_to help clean her
grandparents' home.
Through a boarder who lived
with her grandparents she
learned of a job opening as a
stenographer with the Misner
Manufactruring Company in
Goderich. She landed the job
and worked there for .three
months.
Then she heard of another
job opening as a stenographer
with the Goderich Organ
Company. The Organ
Company was located on
Cambria Road where
McCallum's Funeral Home is
located today. The company
made house organs, piano
stools, laundry trays.
bathroom stools and other
bathroom accessories.
The day she applied for the
job with the Organ Company
still sticks out in Mrs. Kait-
ting's mind. She became the
company's secretary for 27
years until 1954. She had

"If .sorneone had told me in

restaurant I'd have said they
were crazy although I always
liked to cook," says Mrs.
Kaitting.
The Kaittings had pur-
chased their home almost
directly across the road from
the Dunlop motel. The owners
of the motel asked Mrs.
Kaitting if she would serve
breakfast to motel guests. At
first she was hesitant brit then
she decided to do it.
In June 1955 she began to.

My uncle died recently and
he has three large trunks filled
with old books 1 think `that"
some of them might just be old
enough to be valuable, but how
can I find out- for sure?
An auction company will
probably just sell them in
bundles. Any idea as to where
I could have them appraised,

I moved into a new apart-
ment building and was asked
to sign a lease but there is a
clause which says, "Quiet
Enjoyment.", I don't un-
derstand what this means, can
you explain, please?
In spite of its name, such a
dm:Ise in a lease refers neither
to noise, nor to enjoyment.
A covenant for quiet en-
joyment means that you will
have peaceful possession of
the preinises, without fear of
being thiown out of
possession, either by the
landlord or any of his agents.
A covenant for quiet en-
joyment can only be enforced
against the person who made
it. If, for example, the lan-
dlord defaulted 'br1".•,his mon)
tgage and lost the building,
you could be evicted by
whoever held the mortgage.
You would however, be able to
sue the landlord in damages
for histreach of the covenant '
for "quiet enjoyment."

My daughter and son-in-law
gave me an exercise cycle last
Christmas and a' friend says
that she read in the paper
where a lot of the new models
that have been sold are faulty.
Can you tell me if this is
correct, a ' o, what models

To the best of our knowledge
only two models are involved,
both 'of them sold by Sears.
The trouble lies in a metal post
under the seat which could
push through causing possible
injury.
The numbers on the I.D.
labels on these machines are,
16628260, 16629680 & 59228260.
Replacement parts will be
made by Sears without
The company cautioned
NOT to use the cycles until the
seats and posts have been
