The peach trees of Mr. Cox
certainly must have been
hardy as the last ones were
winter -killed in the 1930's.
Many apple and pear trees,
planted about the same time
by my great-grandfather the
above mentioned Mr. Cox,
are still living and bearing
fruit. Cuttings and buds from
the less popular, varieties of
today have been taken to the
Apple Museum and grafted in
the hopelhat the varieties of

More Kneeshaws
Dear Editor:
On page 83 continued
through on June 30, 1977 you
have a write-up about the
Kneeshaw family. I will let
you know a few things more
and correct some in-
formation.
There are no survivors in
my father's family. My father
Thomas Henry Kneeshaw
died in 1943.
His family was as follows:
married twice, to Alberta
Jean Ross deceased; to
Verna Isabel McLeod
deceased; Al4rt James
Kneeshaw, son, deceased;
Byron Ross Kneeshaw, son;
John Henry Kneeshaw, son,
deceased; Jean Isabel
Kneeshaw, daughter; Ernest
Roy Kneeshaw, son.
Albert worked at the
Goderich Salt Co. for years,
married Isabel Glazier of
Clinton, deceased. Ross
worked at the telephone
company in Toledo, Ohio,
married Elizabeth Walters of
Grand Rapids, Ohio. Jack
never married. Jean married
Douglas , Upper of St.
Catharines; they live in
Toronto. Ernest married
Maude Elizabeth Howes of
Seaforth. We live in London
and I work for Westminster
Hospital (will be Victoria
Hospital on the 3rd of October
1977.)
Albert had three of a
family: Frank of Corrunna,
Ontario; Katherine of
Goderich (Mrs. Ted
McAstocker); Olive of
Sarnia, (Mrs. Edwin Monk);
all born in Goderich.
Ross had three in his
family: Thomas of Detroit,
Michigan; Mary of Fort
Wayne, Indiana (Mrs.
Gordon Denton); Susan of
Toledo, Ohio (Mrs. Glenn
Gundy Jr.); all born in
Toledo, Ohio. Ross was born
in Goderich.
Ernest had two in his
family: Brenda Louise, (Mrs.
John Hibbs, London); and
William 'Martin Kneeshaw at
home. William and Brenda
were torn in London; Ernest
h.GodtrIch and Elizabeth in We also wish to thank of-

Now that the pressures of a
beautifully -executed Jubilee
Three celebration have
subsided, I imagine everyone
in Goderich is well rested and
has in a way gone back to
everyday routine style of
living. The city, and
especially its 150th Birthday
Committee, can feel proud of
•a job wonderfully done, one to
be remembered for a long
time by its citizens.
Please accept our belated
Bay City, Michigan, sister
city thanks for the friendship
and hospitality shown us in
Goderich, both for the July 3-4
and July 9-10. weekends . . . to
Police Chief and Parade
Chairman Pat King for the
police escort into town for our
bus delegation; to "Mac"
Campbell and his Jubitee
Three committee for the
convertible, in red, white and
bluebunting furnished for our
St. Patrick's Day queen and
her court . . . for the
arrangements so our queen
and other dignitaries could be
introduced at the . July 9
Arena and Canadian Legion
festivities . . . to the Hotel
Bedford management for co-
operation in our housing
arrangements . . . and to your
community for the warm
greeting along the streets as
we participated in- your
outstanding parade.
Even "Davy Crockett"
found Goderich one of the
most "receptive" com-
munities after parade ap-
pearances throughout much
of the world. Paiticipation in
the parade and your com-
munity's Sesquicentennial
are things we will remember
and treasure for years to
come.
Mayor John R. Willertz, his
City Commissioners, other
city officials and others who
were in Goderich for the July
2-4 weekend, including the
special honors to Bay City on
the Fourth of July, also join
me in these public thanks.

Tuesday. By Sunday $33 had been raised throughout the
carnival for Muscular Dystrophy.(staff photo)

To your friends in Bay City,
this sister city twinning with
Goderich has to be one of the
finest developments in our
city's history, and certainly
the genuine friendship that
sprang up between our two
cities has rubbed off on our
"neighbors" for Standish, a
• smaller community about 40
miles north of Bay City, is
presently negotiating with
three similar -sized com-
munities in your midst with
the idea of involving one as a
sister , city. 'they are
Wingham, Seaforth and
Kincardine. All three are
expressing interest. Standish
Mayor Jack Stoner ac-
comPanied the Bay City
delegation to Goderich July -9-
10. and visited Wingham at
thattime.
London, N6C 4V1 otthose pu 11c_Pla.celbAtild
were greatly impressed by
both facilities.
We may arrange another
bus trip to Goderich later this
fall if plans materialize for a
home -and -home series of
matches between our Bay
City Kickers soccer team and
Goderich's. •
Meanwhile, -we are
recommending, with backing
of our Mayor Willertz, and
City Commissioners here,
that the sister city
relationship between our
cities be made permanent
with official action by both
city governments.
We like this 'Prettiest
Town in Canada" and there is
none other in the whole world
we'd rather be paired with -
permanently. We can see this
as a start on exciting cultural
exchanges between our Osties,
and we are all for that.
Always in friendship,
Leslie E. (Les) Arndt,
President, Bay City Sister
City
Program (People -to -People)

not care about our town. I find;
it difficult to believe that any
of us sharing the town as our
home, deliberately wishes to
eliminate an attraction which
pleases the eye and expresses
our pride and enjoyment of
-our community.
As no person actually has a
real need for a supply of
flags, I presume that the flags
are taken on a dare, as a,
prank involving some small
measure of risk and thus
becoming a , tempting
diversion. •
I am' appealing to the
person or persons responsible
- hoping that I may be able to
reach them through the
newspaper - to please leave
these flags alone. They
supply much of the colout
which would be considerably
reduced by their absence in
the future.
If , someone - perhaps a
family member - wishes to
return a mistakenly acquired
flag, the Parks Dept. would
be most grateful. All you have
to do is to leave the flag in an
envelope or a box at the Town
Hall el/trance on West Street
or any other convenient place
where we could pick it, up.
Please mark it Parks Dept.
There would be no hard
feelings, just a mistake
Corrected.
Dear Editor:
The three flags at the
Jubilee Park form a colourful
part of this little green" and
growing area we were happy
to create in order to make the
drab Highway 8 entrance
more attractive, in lasting
memory of the Jubilee 3 ,
festivities.
Now the ' flags keep
disappearing with alarming
regularity. The Paks Dept.
has come to the point where
we can no longer afford the
money to replace them.
Perhaps the flags are taken
by out-of-town persons who do
Yours sincerely,
Elsa Haydon
