The Housewives sent 14 batters to the plate in their big third inning and, came away with a 10-1 lead and the win. Jan Rutledge and Cleo Colquhoun had singled with no one out and the Diamonds got two in a row before Williams singled them -Sue Kolkman cut that lead in half in the top of the second when she doubled, went to third on Joyce Orr's single and scored on a shot by Marg Kovacs. The Housewives,left two runners on in their half of the second and exploded in the bottom of the third 'after holding Goderich scoreless. Marg Morley lead off the rally with a round tripper and Williams followed the shot up with a single. The Diamonds got two in a row but lost Ann Lebeau with a walk setting up the second home run, a three run shot by Sandra. Burns. Rutledge didn't let the per- formance bother her and drilled a home run herself boosting Clinton's lead to 7-1. Colquhoun singled to keep things hopping for Clinton and Pat Norman moved her down with a single. Morley grabbed her second hit of the inning and scored Colquhoun and Norman and Morley came in on Williams' second shot of the inning before the Diamonds ended the rally with two runners aboard. Kolkman came through again for the Diamonds in the fourth grabbing their second run. She lead off with a single and scored on singles by Orr and Gale Schneiker. The Diamonds got their final run in the sixth when Karen MacKinnon got an inside the park home run on a Clinton error. The Housewives added two more runs in the fourth inning and another two in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Goderich grabs bantampennant with win The Goderich Bantams wound up their regular WOAA baseball schedule with a 25-3 thumping over Hanover in Hanover last Wednesday. The one-sided victory gave the International Truck Centre Bantams a record of 12 wins against only two losses over the season. The Goderich Bantams, as pennant winners of the - league, win a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The second and third place teams, Listowel and Kincardine will meet in the semi-finals, to be completed by August 7. The winner of that series will meet Goderich in the finals. Members of the pennant Monkey golf played at BY CHRIS WILDGEN Another holiday weekend has passed by. The highlight of the weekend at the Sunset was the holiday weekend party, which was a two -ball party. This two -ball was rather different as it was • monkey golf. Joan and Bob McDougall were the winners for the day, with Davis Bentley arid George Williams as second place "monkeys". Most honest golfers were Vic and Edna Powell. The next two -ball party is on August 13. Low gross for second flight was Joyce Bolton. Low nets were Marg Smith, Betty Helesic, Ellen Connelly, Karen Scott, Mary Lynn Telford and Jane Kerr. For third flight, low gross was Edna Powell. Pat Chisholm, Sharon Lassaline, Cathi Hubick, Peggy Cook, Rosemarie Lassaline, Rocky Whalen, Brenda Love and Mariette Chisholm were low nets. For Men's Night, Rick Sowerby was low gross and Gerry Lassaline was low net. First flight winners were Ticker Mero, Tim O'Brien, Dennis LeBrun, Leroy Bedour, Stan Connelly and Bob Cousins. Second flight winners were Art Burt, Andy Smith, Harold Macpherson, Randy Miller, Art Mountford, Bruce Lyndon and Marty Buchanan. Now that August is here, the Invitationals are a reality, rather than something that is "next month", so remember, the men's is on August 17, the ladies' is on August 24 and the junior's is on August 31. Rob McDonald led the Goderich offensive onslaught over Hanover with five hits including a third inning home run. Jim Costello and Larry Madgealso homered for Goderich, and had two other safeties each. Dan Mailiet, Ted 'Doherty and Del Mit- chelmore had two hits each, while Willy Denomme, Brian Shewfelt, Jeffy Denomy and Dave Moore had one hit apiece. Dan Mailiet,. and Larry Madge each pitched two innings for the winners and Ted "split finger" Doherty and Rob "Earl" McDonald hurled one inning each. The Horseshoe Tournament held during the Sesquicen- tennial celebrations on July 2 in Jim Hayter's Used Car Parking Lot was a tremen- dous success with 56 entries and a good number of spectators at all times. Three prizes donated by Schenley's were won in a draw bLola Atkinson and Isabel MacDonald of Goderich and Gary McDonald of Waterloo. Winners of the tournament were, in the singles, first Ken Smith of Monkton, second, Slim Harburn of St. Marys and third, Horace Salt of Mitchell. In the doubles, Gilbert Mason and Hiram Knott of St. • Thomas were first, Dave Kyle Anderson of Hens second and Martin tyne and Sonny Stratford were third.
