bride feted
A large crowd attended the
bridal shower for Miss
Bernadine Van Rooy,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John Van Rooy, held at St.
Joseph's Parish ,Hall at
Kingsbridge on Sunday
evening, July 1,
Mistress of ceremonies
Miss Margaret Frayne in
troduced the following,
numbers, songs by Marie
Boyle with guitar , ac-
companiment by Marie.
Games were played with
Teresa Van Rooy, 'Betty
Knoop, Joni Smith. and
Bernadine Van Rooy
receiving prizes.
Kathy O'Keefe gave a
reading. The address signed
by all those present was read
to Bernadine by Margaret
Frayne. The bride and her
two sisters Mary and Diane
were seated amid bells and
streamers as Mrs. Mary
Clare played Here Comes the
Bride. Bernadine received
many lovely and useful gifts

Mrs. Ed Redfern of Royal
Oak. Michigan is spending
holidays with Mrs. Mary
Frayne.
Mrs. Betty Frayne visited
on the weekend with her
mother. Mrs. Albert Kraemer
at Listowel.
Mrs. Diny Reyenders and
son Jack arrived last week
from Holland to spend four
weeks vacation with her
sister Mrs. Martin Hendriks,
Mr. Hendriks and family.
Mr: and Mrs. Clem Steffler
and family of Whitelaw,
.Alberta are spending the
month of July holidays with
his brother Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Steffler at Walton and visiting
with their. former neighbours
and friends in this area.

Congratulations to the boys
from this area who took part
in' the bed races held on
Friday, July 1, Canada Day.
at the Goderich Sesquicen-
tennial celebrations.
Although they did not come
into the winner's category,
they deserve a lot of praise
for the hours of work and
labour put into their efforts.

Miss Michelle Austin,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Vincent Austin, Miss Debbie
Stothers, Bob Rourke and
Steve Park were admitted to
the Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital, Goderich
following a three car pile up
on Highway 21 at Dunlop on
Friday evening, July 15. The
two boys were released on
Friday evening. Miss
Austin received a shaking up
and will be released from the
hospital on Monday, July 18.
Miss Stothers received a
broken ankle and, was
released on Sunday following
surgery on Saturday.

the Peter Adamson Memorial
Scholarship for the highest
average in Year 4 (grade 12)
calculated from the
aggregate of six Year 4
subjects. Her average was
90.5 percent.
Congratulations also to
Darrell Kloeze, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harm Kloeze, R.' R.
3, Goderich who will receive
the Veteran's Memorial
Scholarship for one of the two
highest averages calculated
from the aggregate of seven
Year 1 (Grade 9) subjects.
Darrell's average was 90.9
percent.
And congratulations to Eric
Courtney, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe. Courtney of RR 1,
Dungannon, who will receive
the Peter Adamson Memorial
Scholarship for the highest
average in Year 2 (Grade 10)
at Goderich District
Collegiate Institute. Eric's
average calculated from the
aggregate ,of seven Year 2
subjects was 89.6 percent.
These scholarships will be
awarded at Commencement
Exercises held at the
.,.collegiate in September.

fought a few hundred years
ago and its memory and
tradition still lives on. On
Saturday. • July 16,

hold the annual celebration of
the historical battle.
Sponsored by the lodges in
South Huron, some 65 groups
took paii, in a parade .which
marched through
village.ESsex. Kent,
bton, Middlesex -Elgin,
Bruce, North and -South
Plans are being finalized
for the Annual Craft Show
and Sale :which will be
presented by Huron -Bruce
Arts and Crafts Incorporated
in the Ripley -Huron Chin-
munity Centre in Ripley on
Friday, July 29 from 10 am to
9 p.m. and on Saturday, July
30 from 10 am to 6 pm.
The conveners, Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver McCharles and
their committee have ob-
tained. a large group of
crafters with a varied and
interesting array of crafts
where there will be
something of interest to all
ages.
Antiques and many crafts
such as crocheting, china
painting, oil painting, wood
products, quilts, ceramics,
various types of jewellery,
rugs, pottery, leather, dried
flower arrangements, _apple
head dools, Japanese em-
broidery. perfume, silk
screening, clay animals,
Bruce County Tartan, cop-
percraft, paper tol-e,
macrame and many more
will be for sale by crafters
from across Ontario. There
will also be demonstrations of
some crafts.
Everyone enjoys fresh
garden produce and home
baking which will be
available. There will also be
lucky draws, entertainment,
food and fun. The proceeds,
as in the past, will go to
community projects.

Orangeman in the parade.
Woodhams Orange Lodge
won first prize for the best
float. while Tom Penhale of

Bayfield, who carried Some of
the older members of the
irious lodges with his team
and wagon, , took second
place. The Varna- Orange
odge held the third best float
The best Ladies Orange
Benevolent Association
award went to Clinton while
Listowel took the prize for the
best ladies: True Blue
Association entry. North
Perth was the best Royal
Orange Lodge and Belgrave
e.
was the best Junior Orange
Lodge.
A number of bands also
took part in the parade and

After the parade, which
was watched by an estimated
3 000 spectators, a. fife and

Along with the parade and
competitions. a midway, ball
tournament and dance were

with the help of the Bayfield
Lions. A draw for 40 pounds of
steak was won by Howazd
