included in a major' art
auction held onJuly , 31 to
benefit the Huron Country
Playhouse.
Sharon Theobald of
Waterloo, who is serving as
guest curator and auctioneer,
describes the art auction as
"fun for the adventurous and
a serious business for
collectors, an ideal op-
portunity for the people who
are beginning or extending a
collection. . ." and her goal
for the public is, "to see fine
art, to learn about Canadian
and international artists, to
enjoy the varied art media,
and hopefully to buy a unique
work of art."
Theobald, who until
recently was owner of the
Bridgton Art Gallery in
Maine, serves as auctioneer
for Canada on Canvas and is
an accredited art auctioneer.
Her husband, Bill, a member
of the Recreation Depart-"
,Jnent at the University of
Waterloo, is a registered art
appraiser and a member of
the Board of Directors of the
Kitchener -Waterloo Art
Gallery.
The 100 works of art were
selected primarily in Canada,
Europe and the United States
and they include original oil
paintings, , lithographs, et-
chings, woodcuts, serigraphs,
watercolours, sculptures and
objects d'art. The base value
of the collection has been set
between $35,000 and $40,000.
Among the more unusual
items are the original
• tapestries by the Cuna
Indians of the primitive San
Blas Islands in the Caribbean
off Panama, a rare Man Ray
hand colored etching, a
Picasso drypoint and three
out of a series ' of 52 large include Dave Sheppard and

More than 2,000 flyers are
being distributed. but anyone
who wishes to attend is
welcome.
Admission is $3 per person.
An original work of fine art
donated by Sharon Theobald
will be a door prize.
Proceeds will benefit the
Huron Country Playhouse
and its fine works under the
artistic direction of ,fames
Murphy.

Dubuffet's lithographs sell in
contemporary galleries for
$5,000.
Each work will have a base
reserve price, ranging from
$50 to $2.000 or more.
A catalogue, in"cltfding a
glossary of terms, rules of the
auction, and a brief
description of each work will
be available when the doors
open at 5 p.m. for viewing. A
buffet supper will be served
in the courtyard at a cost of $3
per person. Auction begins at
8:15 p.m.

Puppets at
Playhouse
Toronto's Pepi Puppet
Theatre will perform "Hansel
and Gretel" at the Playhouse
on Saturday morning July
30th at 10:30 a.m.
The Pepi Puppets, well
known on television, are
recognized as one of the
leading shows of its kind. The
Company, under the direction
of Andrew Taryon, is actually
:'5 years old. It had its origin
in Europe before moving to
Toronto five years ago.
Tickets for the per-
formance are available at a
number of locations
throughout the area. There
are no reserved seats for the
performance; tickets may be
purchased at the door. Ticket
prices are $2.50 for. adults,
and $ I.25 for children.
Blyth history
portrayed
on the stage
The characters of Blyth,
Ontario will come to life on
the stage of the Blyth
Memorial Hall on July 27 at
8:30 p.m. On that evening, the
Blyth Summer Festival opens
the third play of its regular
season, The Blyth Memorial
Ilistory'rhow•,
Jim Schaefer, who is
familiar to Festival patrons
as actor. director and
playwright, has written the
play to coincide with the
celebration. of Blytb's cen-
tennial celebrations. Special
matinee and evening per-
' formances will be given
throughout the centennial
weekend, July 29 to August 1.
The play takes the history of
Blyth from its roots in 1633
•
•
through its settlement, in-
corporation and growth to the
modern day. The characters
of the play include both
historical personalities and
present inhabitants of the
village. The play is being
directed for the Festival by
Janet Amos of Theatre Passe
Murail•le fame.
Tickets ,for the opening or
subsequent performances of
the Blyth Memorial History
Show are available at the'
Festival, box office -(phone
523-9300) or at any ticket
outlet. As only six per-
formances of the play are
scheduled, patrons are ad-
vised to reserve their tickets
early.

1 riedel Nanz, assistant curator of the Huron County Pioneer Museum sits
with some of Dr. William "Tiger" Dunlop's furniture on display at the
museum. Dunlop lived from 1792 to 1848 and helped John Galt with the
founding of Goderich in 1827. The furniture which -consists of a settee,
matching 'chairs and an old arm chair, was donated to the muse
memory of William and Mary Morris (Thurlow) by daughters Mrs.
Laurence, Mrs. Elsie Fraser and Mrs. Helena Weekes and Mr. and
