Soccer,
The big news this week is
the game of the century has
been scheduled for Thursday,
July :'8 at the Arena. Don't
miss it!! The Goderich Minor
Soccer Coaches and some
parents have. challenged the
match. This will be -an --all out
do or die -,affair with yours
truly playing in my first ever
soccer game. Some of the
coaches- wives will be Slip
plying the expert coaching we
will need to. deal with the
PeeWee team. Game time is 7
p.m.
In Bantam action, Goderich
met up with some stiff
competition from the' Sarnia
Canadian Legion. Sarnia
quickly obtained a 4-1 .lead
but our boys fought back to a
close 4-3 score. However,
Sarnia scored the clincher
and final goal to win 5-3.
The Mosquito team handed
Clinton A's their first loss of
the season by a score of 2-1!
This was the closest and
toughest game the Mosquitos
have played all year. The
entire team gave a 100 per-
cent effort while David Moore
was outstanding in goal.
JohnThompson and Don
McCallum rwere the goal
getters for Goderich.
The Mosquitos went on to
play another tough game
against St. Columban.
However, in this game it was
St. Columban who came out
on top by a score of 4-:'. This
was also a very close game
which could have gone either
way. Jeff Denom me and
Daryl Madge were the goal
scorers. We would at this
time like'to thank Rick Fisher
for .all the excellent
refereeing he has done for the
Mosquitos. And also thanks to
linesmen Wallace Watts and
Dale Steward.
The Pee -Wee game was
postponed to later date.
In the Atom division, the
Goderich Atom A's swamped
Bayfield 8 - 0. The Goderich
Atom A's are now on a four
ga-n.jig streak!

Heavenly days! I leave the
country for a- week and our
boys clean house right across
the board! All the Goderich
Minor soccer teams came up
with victories last week !!
In the Bantam „division
Goderich travelled to St.
Clair Shores, U.S.A. and
managed to hold the
American team off in the first
half to go into the second half
with a 0-0 tie. Goderich was
quick off the mark to score
two goals. However the hot
weather was wearing the
boys down and St. Clair
pushed in two goals to tie the
game once again. However,
Goderich sneaked one in with
only a minute to play to cinch
the game 3-2. The ;Bantam
team has now won four of
their six games. .
In the Pee Wee division
Goderich shut -out Bayfield in
a• lopsided game.. Goderich
then travelled to Seaforth
short three of their key
players but still managed to
come out on the better end of
a 3-1 score. The Goderich
team played an excellent
passing game and main-
tained possession of the ball
throughout the better part of
the game. Phil Grace scored
on a pass from' Dave
McDonald to put Goderich
ahead 1-0 at the half-time
break.
In the second half Ron
McInnes scored o1- a_pass
from George Kerr to make it
2-0. At this point Seaforth
scored their goal to keep it
close and tough. Dave
MacDonald then scored
assisted by Kerr to give
Goderich their 3-1 victory.
John Hough played an
excellent half -back position
as he r° an and ran and ran and
never seemed to tire out. Also
showing lots of hustle in this
game was Tim Goddard.
Coach Vic Alexander stated
he was very pleased with his
boys as they played ex-
tremely well.
The Goderich Mosquito
team blanked Clinton with a
9-0 shut -out! This is the
Mosquitoes' fourth win in five
games!

their fourth win slipping by
Clinton 3-1. This was a good
tough game with the score
tied 1-1 at half-time. Clinton's
goal came from a penalty
kick. So watch those penaltie§
boys - they can kill you.
However, Goderich came on
strong in the second half to
score two unanswered goals.
The Atom B team put
everything together and got
onto the winning track. First
they showed great im-
provement by playing to a 1-1
deadlock against Clinton.
Darcy McGee scored the goal
on a pass from Todd
Gilchrist. On Thursday the
Atom B's travelled to
Bayfield where they' picked
up a 2-0 victory. Todd Wilson
scored the first assisted
by McGee •and Gilchrist.
Brant Williamson put the
second one in with McGee
once again picking up the
assist.
In the Squirt division
Goderich evened the score
with Clinton. Last, month
Clinton had defeated
Goderich 1-0 in a close hard
game. This time it was our
boys who handed,Glinton a 1-0
loss. Now you sure Can't get
two teams any closer than
that.
