The Bowlers are just one game off first place McGee Pontiacs. The Bowlers took command of the game right ,from the first inning and ran up a 6-0 lead until the Birds pushed two runs ovei'lfi`Tiel ottom of the fourth. Glen Falkiner grabbed an unearned run in the first inning when he singled and came around to score on two con§ecutive Thunderbird errors. Terry Powell used some Bird' mistakes to score the winning run in the second. Dave Patterson started the inning off with a single and a fielder's choice allowed Powell to single and Pat- terson to move to second. Both men moved one on a wild pitch and Patterson scored on .a fielder's choice. An error to first baseman Dennis Miskie allowed Powell to score the winner. The Bowlers added 'two more to their lead in the third when Falkiner grabbed his second hit of the' -me, a double. Ron Ritchiescored him with a single and Bill Chisholm drove Ritchie in with a single after Patterson waited out a walk. Falkiner notched the sixth run in the top of the fourth when he used an error to get on second and came home on Ritchie's single after going to third on a fielder's choice. The Birds got on the board in the fourth inning when Miskie lead off with a double and came home on a double • by John Hakkers. Hakkers scored on an error charged to short stop Powell on Phil Turner's shot. The Birds left two men on base when Len -kolkman lined out to third base. John Crawford was touched seven times in the win while loser Glen Ferguson was hit nine times. Fergusson struck out four Bowlers. 9 file Maitland Country Club held a Ladies' Invitational golf tournament on Wednesday, July 13. Courtney held the Pontiacs at bay with. a one hit per- formance across the next four innings and the Sports' bats struck for two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to grab the win, Warren Watt scored the winner when he singled and moved to third on Rick McLean's single. McLii!an went to -second on the throw to try for Watt at third and both men scored on a triple by Courtney. • Gord's Sports moved out of the Dunlop division basement in Industrial league action recently when they handed first. place McGee Apontiacs their second straight loss 4-2. Langlois stops Cleaners • Simon Langlois chucked a two hitter to help Ziebart Rustproofers shut out French Cleaners 5-0 Monday night in Industrial League' action. _Langlois ' helped his own cause' by smacking a"home ` run scoring what turned out to be the game's winning run. Langlois stepped into a Don McWhinney pitch with two out in the top of the fourth and drilled a shot out of the park to boost the Rustproofers out of a scoreless tie, The shot stpod as the game's only run until the top. of the seventh when the Rustproofers rallied for four more to ice the game. Don. Parker and , Dan Duncan started off the final inning for. Ziebart with a pair Sailing club The Goderich Sailing Club, Salt Bowl, is getting ready for their annual Fireball Regatta this Saturday and Sunday. About 15 to 20 Fireballs (racing dingys) are expected to be brought into town by trailer and launched in Snug Harbor. There will be about four races, the first one being of singles. Dennis Lassaline laid down a bunt to move both down and Tom Love chipped a single to score Parker. Ron Whetstone made it 3-0 with a double and Lave made it four on a wild pitch. Whetstone moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored the game's final run before McWhinney could nip the drive. Ron Klages, the league's leading hitter, struck both times for the Cleaners;` -once leading off the first for. French and once in the sixth. Two errors allowed Cleaners on base., once in the fifth and again in the sixth. Langlois struck out five batters in the win. McWhinney gave up 10 hits in the loss. regatta at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the second one at 2 p.m. There is only one entry from Goderich. The . Goderich race is a qualifying race for the Canadian Olympic Training Regatta at Kingston (CORK). Three people may qualify out of a total of ten picked from Ontario. The. Sports moved into the final inning with a 4-1 lead and after the Pontiacs scored once, had a man on base and the tying run at the plate ended„ the game with a grounder to first. Dennis Williamson pushed Gord's into an early lead with a two run blast in the first inning._Bob Riehl singled on a fielder's choice and Williamson jumped on a Ken Daer pitch and drove it out of the park for a 2-0 lead. Ron Sowerby hammered a double to score him, but Courtney got Paul Kelly to ground out •to first to end the inning, rally and game.
