stood. Most of the houses on
the tour did have stables at
one time.
The front doo*.. of the Hill
house is unique in that it can
only be opened from the in-
side, '
The next house visited on
the- tour was the Malcoini..
--Mothers home at 12.2 West
Street. This house was built
about 1853 and Benjamin
ParSons, the -first mayor of
Goderich in 1850 lived in it.
The house was in the Parsons'
family for over 100 years. The
Mathers family is only its
second owner.
The two storey building is a
simple early Canadian design
w-ttli a centre hall and
possibly the original veranda.
It is built of clapboard or
,boards that overlap one
another.

Street was next on the tour.
There is some difference of
opinion on the date of this
house's construction. It could
be 1891 or 1858. It was built by
Jacob Seegroiller who was a
trader in whiskey; hides and
fish along the Huron Trail
beginning around 1832.
The house and property
was one ......regular.farn;
which extended to West
Street. The house itself began
as a simple Georgian design
but a later addition made out
of limestone from the

gave it it a Saltbox style ap-
pearance.
The Saltbox style is a style
prevalent in the New Englapd
Stotts but not so conoton in
Canada. Most of the 360 panes
of glass in the house are the
original wavy glass.
St. George's Anglican,
Church at ./8 Nelson Street
West was visited on the 'tour.
This church, which was
completed in 1880 is unique in

I've been temporarily laid
off from my job as a driver,
and I was wondering how :1
might go about getting a
license to teach people to drive
a car. Can you tell me please,
what all is involved.
This is quite a tall order as'''
there is quite a bit involved,
however the following should
give you some idea of how to
go about it.
1) Apply to Ministry of
Transport and enclose $25.
2) You'll receive application
and medical forms plus a
drivers handbook, and details,
on exam requirements.
3) Take medical from,.,yout
own doctor, then report to the
Ministry of Transport office
with your completed forms
and 4 passport phcitos and $10.
4) You'll, get a written test of
50 questions and a vision test,
and if you pass them you'll be
_issued a 30 day, temporary
instructors permit. (Valid for
teaching, provided there's a
qualified instructor in the
car.)
5) During this 30 day period
you must take another writte -11
test plus a verpthcifough roa d
test, and finally you will b e
Jested on your ability to iii-
struct,
6) To be issued an Ontario
driving instructors license you
MUST PASS ALL of •the tests.
The cost of the license is $15
and is renewable each year on
March 31st.
