This is, "an old wives tale" said "Mr. Wally Ken- nedy, District Administrator of the CNIB, London branch. He said the reason' for the belief is that blind people are ,more dependent on these senses - they try harder. Wally, blind from birth, addressed a recent meeting of Alpha Huron held in Holmesville Public School. Hesaid that blind people have the same needs, desires, and most . capabilities of those with vision. He was especially proud of a young man, who lately received an engineer's degree at a local university and is now gainfully em- ployed with an engineering firm. The CNIB helpsall who come to them • seeking guidance or help. To put their beliefs into practice, they never hire a sighted person, if a blind one can do the job. Wally's talk was preceded by a short film strip depicting types of blindness. A display table held such gadgets as a collapsible white cane, dominoes, playing cards, talking calculator and one of the newer electronic devices, an opticon which • allows the blind to read " a book with ordinary printing.
