land stayed and -stayed. Everywhere residents
and • visitors went; there were , lineups and
throngs of people. Whether one was trying to buy
groceries at one of the local stores or attempting
to get to work, traffic was at a peak for the entire
celebration period, June 29 to July 10. '
Of course, the largest crowds -arrived on the
weekend when the prqvince's largest -ever
parade wound its way through the streets of
town. It is estimated that 25,00Qpeople lined the
parade route to watch the fun. Those in the
parade who were lucky enough tobe at the front
of the parade were able to sit down and enjoy the
tremendous array of floats and bands Which
followed..Those who were placed at the middle or
towards the end of the parade spent trittch_ of
Saturday waiting in line for their cue to start
along the parade route.
There were over 400 floats in the parade and 23
bands, taking moire- than four hours to pass one
point. While some of the spectators complained

left their positions along the parade route until
the parade marshal Police Chief Pat King had
passed by, • officially ending, the mammoth
'spectacle. Chief K ing .was enthusiastically
greeted •by the crowds and it was evident the
parade had been appreciated by the cheers and
the applause as the police chief -marched smartly
along.
Weather-wise, Saturday was perfect for a
parade. A cooling, brisk breeze kept streamers
and flags in motion while refreshing both par-
ticipants and spectators. Bul. there was •warm
sunshine too, washing the entire scene with the

On Sunday, the halls of GDCI were teeming
with graduates and friends of .graduates...There
-were some recent grads among them, but for the
most part the crowd consisted of graduates from

reunion were W. E. Elliott of Goderich who
graduated from the Collegiate in 1899 and the
Rev. Ure Stewart. Seaforth, who graduated in
1900.
