HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1977-07-07, Page 45PAGE 16A—GODERIeH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDXY JULY 7, 1977 Graduation Mass held for Grade 8 students INTENDED FOR LAST WEEK - Graduation Mass for the Grade 8, students::.. of St. Joseph's school at' Kingsbridge was celebrated by the Reverend Father -Ed Dentinger, C.R. in St. Joseph's catholic church at "Kingsbridge on Monday evening, June 27 at 7 p.m: The 22 members of the graduating - class took part during the Mass as Altar Servers, readers, the Offering, etc. Mrs. Lillian Simpson was organist. The Communion hymn was sung by Mrs. Nancy Park. The banquet dinner was served in the Parish basement by members of the Kingsbridge Catholic Women's League. Mr. David Zyluk was the , Master of Ceremonies. Grace was said by Father Dentinger. A toast was made to the Queen. Head table guests were Mr. and Mrs. Deb Wilson; Reverend Father Caughlin, of St. Augustine; the guest speaker Mr. Pat Dunne, principal David Zyluk and Mrs. Zyluk; Reverend Father • Ed Den- tinger; Mr. Gerry Petrie, Grand Knights Knights of Columbus, Mrs. Petrie and Mr. Melvin O'Reilly. Toasts to the students were made by Mrs. Melba Park with a reply by Debbie Austin. Toast to the teachers was made by Tom Foran. with a reply by Mrs. Anne Reigling. Toast to the parents' was made by -Stephen Frayne with a reply by Stan Doherty'. The Valedictorian address was read by Dean Doherty The guest speaker was- Mr. pat Dunne of Walkerton. He was introduced by istric ne S Auburn ACW hear poems. about summer The Anglican Church Women of St Mark's Church held *heir June meeting at the home of Mrs. Andrew Kirk- connell. Mrs. Kirkconnell presided for the meeting opening with a hymn followed by prayers by Mrs.• Robert Slater. The devotional period " was taken from the Living Message with all taking part. Poems on Summer Days an Summer Evenings were read by Mrs. Elmer Trommer. This part of the evening was closed with a hymn and prayer. President Mrs. Robert Slater presided for the business session. The minutes . were adopted as read by the secretary Mrs. John Daer. The financial statement was adopted as given by the treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. A report was given of the Spring Deanery meeting held recently at Walkerton. It was announced that a meeting will be held at Brussels when a new rector will be selected. The meeting was closed with prayer. A dainty lunch was served by Mrs. Kirkconnell assisted by Mrs. Donald Cartright. Anderson and- their son Mr. William Anderson of London visited a, week ago with the former's brother, Mr. Tom Anderson at • North Bay. Mr. Anderson retired lately and is enjoying his retirement. Mrs. Myrtle Munro returned home last Friday after a weeks visit in Ottawa with her son, M -r. Glen Youngblut, Mrs. -Youngblut, John and 'Jennifer. She took the plane to Ottawa and on the return to London visited with her son Donald. Mrs. Youngblut and family and they brought her home. Misses Christine, Rhonda SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Reg Carter of Port Elgin and Mrs`. Elizabeth Hill of Goderich visited last Wednesday with • Mr. and Mrs. Qlive'r Anderson. Mrs. Elbert McFarlane went to Ottawa last week by plane to visit her niece Mrs. W.R. Ulm and Mr. Ulm and daughter Shelley. She also visited with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Stanley Mitch of Lacombe, Alberta who was visiting at the same home. Mrs. McFarlane returned home last Friday. We are sorry to report that Miss Sadie__Carter and her sister Mrs. Elizabeth Hill of Goderich, formerly of Auburn are both patients in Alexandra Marine and General hospital in Goderich. Mis Lynn Turner returned to .London this week after several days holidaying at her home here. Congratulations to Frank Slater on winning the awarc l for Industrial Arts at the Hullett school at the Grade 8 graduation banquet held last Thursday evening. CHURCH NEWS Classes at Knox United. Church Sunday 'school en- joyed trips and picnics after attendance awards were presented. Mrs. Leonard Archambault with her assistants Mrs. Wayne Millian and Mrs. Fred f.aivrence held -games for nursery and kindergarten clashes. Winners were Lori Armstrong, Sheila Rodger and:Leone Cunningham. This was the hop on one foot. For the race, Sharon Ramsay, Michael Millian and Jeff Nesbitt were the winners. The hop,race in the nursery class was won by Bryan Gross, Donna Lynn and Cathy h Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Victoria Zyluk. He spoke on "The Recipe for Suc- cessful Living", ending with and Jennifer Stadelmann of Blyth visited a few days last week with their grandmother, Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.
