Robert Allan Sinclair, of Lakewood, Ohio, a grandson of George Cox, one-time co-owner of the newspaper. Capt. Sinclair, retired after -- many years on the Great Lakes, is author of the book, Winds Over Lake Huron. The house shown in the accompanying picture was that of George Cox, on the south side of Britannia Road between McDonald and Keays streets. It was torn down a few years ago and an apartment building facing McDonald street was built on part of the site. Mrs. James B. Dickerson, of Indianapolis, a grand- daughter of George Cox, who assisted in identifying the persons in the picture, writes: "In 1909„ Alice and John Cox and their sons, Ben and George, living in Chicago, went on a visit to the gran- dparents. I am the daughter of Ben Cox, and visited Goderich when, I was about two. I don't remember it, but have pictures to prove it.- My husband and I are family history buffs and we hope some day to visit Goderich. I have corresponded with Captain Sinclair and own a copy of his recent book. Captain Sinclair in his book relates that George Cox, son of Abraham, when working in the States was converted at a revival meeting. In Goderich township he started the first Sunday School. When the Signal was published in 1848, George, then 14, started as' an apprentice and stayed with the paper nearly all his working life, as foreman, for Some years and later as one of the proprietors. An item in the Signal in 1890 told of a gathering at the residence of George Cox to celebrate his 50 years as a printer. He had been jour- neyman printer, foreman, part proprietor, and had been 40 years with the Signal. George Cox married Elizabeth Allen, born in Ireland in 1832, daughter of John Allen, operator of the Dunlop Inn.
