EVELYN WATSON Mrs. Evelyn Waison for- merly of Colborne Township and Goderich died on July 1 in Huronview at the age of 86. She was born in Ashfield Township of May -13, 1891 to Evelyn (Twamley) and William Sherwood. She lived -in Ashfield Township until her marriage to Alex Watson on December 18, 1918 at which time she moved to Colborne Township. She moved to Goderich in 1958 and to Huronview about 4 years ago. She was the organist at Nile United Church for several years. She was a member of Nile United Church and later of NoTth Street United Church in Goderich. Mrs. Watson was predeceased by her husband in 1958. She was also predeceased by one brother and two sisters. She is sur- vived by two daughters, Mrs. Winnifred Girvin of West Wawanosh Township and Mrs. Rod (Margaret) McKenzie of Goderich; one sister, Mrs. Marie Morrison of Teeswater; 4 grand- children and 5 great- grandchildren. The .Reverend conducted the funeral service at Stiles Funeral Home on Sunday, July 3 at 4 p.m. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery. JOHN F. HOWARD • • John F. Howard of Listowel died suddenly in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich on Sunday, July 3 at the age of 62, He had been vacationing at Port Albert shortly before his death. He was born in Goderich on January 2, 1945 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Howard. He was a teacher and head of the geography department at Listowel District Secondary School. He was a member of the Trinity ,United Church in Listowel. He was one of the - directors of the Listowel curling club. He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Helen Mueller of 11111111111111111mesisv London. He is survived by his wife, Myna (Bryan); three sons, Bryan J. of Windsor, Warren J. and Randall J. both of Waterloo and one sister, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Murphy of Clinton. Funeral services were held at the Robert Trench Funeral Home in Listowel on Wed- nesday, July 6 at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Listowel, MRS. W. Ei YAKE Mrs. Wilma YAe, Rexdale, died Friday, July 1 at Peel Memorial Hospital, Bram- pton, after an illness of seven years. She was 53, She was the former Wilma Pitblado and was born October 19, 1923 in Colborne Tbwnship to David and Melissa (Johnston) Pitbladoi She had resided in Hamilton, Bronte, Oakville, Moffat, 4,bdifoil and Goderich, and at one time worked at the Sky Harbour Airport. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one son, Webster, New Glasgow; Nova Scotia ; three daughters, Mrs. John (Eve'lyn)Maclnnis, Goderich; Mrs. Gary (Muriel) Sitter, Victoria, B.C.; and Mrs. Tony (Linda) Falcone, Kleinburg; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Ada Clark, Brampton; Mrs. Melvin (Dorothy) Nobes, St. .Catharines; Mrs. Clifford (Margaret) Bennett, Huntsville; Mrs. Doug (Marion) Patterson, Bolton; and Mrs. Ron (Kay) McIntosh, Goderich; two brothers, Jim Pitblado, Rexdale; David Pitblado, Weston; her stepmother, Mrs. Stella Pi,tblado, Toronto; and by her" friend, Lloyd Campbell. Funeral service was Monday, July 'fat McCallum Funeral Home with the Rev. G. L(Royal officiating. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Neeb, Jim Cowan, Clarence Bishop, Run Diehl, Gordon Bow"ers and .Con - statitino Falcone. Flower - bearers were Leslie Nobes, David Bennett, Scott Pat- terson, Geoff Pitblado and Paul McIntosh. MISS M. J. BLACK Miss. Melinda Jane Black, Huronview died at Huronview Sunday June 26. She was 86. She was born DeceMber 25, 1890 in Ashfield Township to William John and Elizabeth (Maize) Black. She was a resident of Dungannon for most of her life,.and resided in GOderich for five years before moving to Huronview two years ago. Surviving are four,sisters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Petrie, Goderich; Mrs. George (Margaret) ; Glenn, Goderich; Mrs. Allan (Olive) Watson, Colborne Township; and Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Johnston p Goderich; three brothers, Case of Kitchener; Cecil of Listowel; and Elmer bf Ashfield Township. Mrs. Arkell had resided in Calgary, Goderich Township and Bayfield 'before • moving to Goderich four years ago. She was a member of the Women's Guild at Trinity Anglican Church in Bayfield where she held membership. Surviving are • two. daughters, Mrs. Robert M. (Vera) Turner, Bayfield and Mrs. Donald (Rosemarie) Sager, Goderich; two sons, Thomas C. Arkell, London England and His Honor Judge Kenneth F. Arkell, Vernon, B.O 11 grandchildren. and, two 'great grandchildren three sisters, Mrs. Alfred, (Vera) McLaughlin, Mrs. Fred -(Helen) "LeBeau• and Mrs. Gordon' (Rose) S,,pot- chmer, all of Bayfield, and two brothers, Alfred Scot- chmer and Gordon Scot- chmer, both of Bayfield. The funeral service was Thursday, June 30 at Trinity Anglican Church, Bayfield with Rev. William M. Bennett officiating. Interment was in Bayfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mrs. Arkell's grandsons Phillip 'Turner, Brian King, Kenneth Arkell, Clare Sager, Nick -Sager and Toni Sager. Anoverflow crowd of parishioners, visitors and, guests thronged St. Peter's Roman -Catholic Church last Sunday morning- to welcome home His Excellency, Bishop ThomasJoseph McCarthy, a native of the town of Goderich and presently Bishop of the Diocese of St. Catharines. Bishop McCarthy honoured the Sesquicentennial of the Town of Goderich with the celebration of a Latin Mass. The last time a Latin Mass was celqbrated itt,the Talmo of Goderich was in June of 1963. His Excellency, Bishop McCarthy, was led in procession from the Rectory to the Church by His Horibur Judge Francis G. Carter, Knight Commander of The Order of St. Sylvester, which was 'Conferred on him in 1962 by Pope John XXIII. The -colourful procession included Altar 'Joys from St. Peter's Church and an Honour Guard by the Fourth Degree Knights of Colutribus. Special guests included His Worship, Mayor Delbert Shewfelt and his Council, His Honour Judge Willertz, Mayor of Bay City, Michigan and -his Commissioners and Officers of the United States Coastguard Cutter, The Alexandra Henry.. Dan Murphy welcomed the visitors and guests on behalf of St. Peter's Parish and its Pastor, Father R. Moynahan. He also read the prayers which included a prayer requesting God" to bless this • Town---ancf-this-paristr on its= 150th birthday. His Honour, John Willertz, read the " Lessons. Bishop. McCarthy in his Homily referred to the _sacrifices of the early- set - tiers. He recalled how they appreciated their Christian Heritage And in the early days the Clergy were sent to them at their request. In the meantime, they tried to in - as best they could with little or no formal education.
