of the Free Methodist Church, carries on a ministry of
•.:,,o'earsaght in the church from a background of 21 years as
a pastor. In 1953 he was appointed to serve. the Lexington
Free Methodist Church in Kentucky. At that time he was.
a seminarian. He; his wife and four children moved from
L : there to New Westminster, B.C. Canada fora five year
pastorate during which time. the average attendance rose'
•
from 103 to 256 and membership nearly doubled. 14is last: ---
thirteen years before his election to -the bishopric were',
spent as pastor of the Greenville Free Methodist Church,
the church that serves the Greenville College.
Bishop Bastian has been speaker in pastor's and
missionary retreats in such widely separated countries
asEgypt, Japan,, South American, Costa Rica and
Brazil. He has also ministered on College campuses in
the United States.
He is the author of the book, The Mature Church
Member now being updated. His articles have appeared
in such periodicals as Christianity Today:, The Lutheran,
United- Methodist's Together, Christian Reader, These
Times, Toronto Star and others:
Bastian is a graduate of Greenville College and Asbury
Theological Seminary. In 1965 Seattle Pacific College'
awarded him the Doctor of Divinity degree and,
Greenville conferred upon him the Doctor of Sacred
Theology degree in 1974.
,The Bastians now : live in Toronto from where he
oversees the Canadian. churches and the Latin American
Conferences. ..
Most of all; Bishop D.N. Bastian is a committed
Christian. His life is given to bringing men and women to
a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
It is an unusual pleasure and privilege to have ,this
distinguished man of" God visit the town during• this
Triple Jubilee Festival -
