Thank you Anne Van Die enbeek —27 Last Saturday St. George's Parish Hall provided the settlngtorl. roses, arrangements, hdbbies, collections and crafts of exuberant Green: thumbers will) welcomed parents and °guests to their show. A Wishing well, laden with roses was an attractive cen- terpiece.- This was the second Junior Rose Show held in Goderich by the Green Thumbers, and, in fact, the only Junior Rose Show held in Canada. Fifty percent of the young members exhibited their own roses, arrangements, and other flowers,,.and some very fine crafts, collections and hobby displays. There were 25 exhibitors (ages I to 13) with 116 entries, as compared to the same number of entries by 35 exhibitors last year, proving that these children are taking this cultural project seriously land cer- tainly improving their techniques and skills. Mrs. Neil Shaw of the Senior Garden Club was faced with a very difficult task in choosing top winners and several extra seconds and thirds were awarded. •Patrick Madden won the highest .number of points in olrnesville happenin s by Blanhe-Deeves-- Mr. and Mrs. Don Duff and Bradley were off to the go- cart races in Picton, where Bradley took part in the races. John and Grace Greidanus travelled to Vancouver to visit -'with their daughter Margaret Well, these showers of this week are much needed by the area farmers. It has been good Weather for those doing their haying. Many from the area are attendingthe celebrations in Goderich aiid enjoying themselves from all ac - Glen Price's garage was a busy place last week with a, large machine pressing cars. They spent a week pressing 600 cars, taking them to Toronto were they will be reprocessed. We all were sorry to hear of Millie and Lew Dempsey's fire last week. I understand there was considerable damage and that they are working at the house, repairing the damage and are still able to stay on there. Do hope everyone has a very happy and enjoyable summer. I know that tnany are away at the present time counts. Happy birthday and we will hear from them - Goderich. again. the show with a total, of 16 points to win a miniature Green House donated hy,the club's co-sponsor, Art's Landscaping. The second highest number .of _paints in the show was earned by Brian -Moulton with 11 points who was presented with a book on gaviening by Mrs. Jean Barnett. Anne Allen, with 10 points was third highest in the show Highest number of points in the Rose Section was won by Patrick Madden who received the Canadian Rose Society senior medal which was presented pn behalf of the Senior Garden Clubby Mrs. C. Kalbfleisch, President. The special Junior CRS medal for the best rose in the show (Jessika), went to George Zoethout. The best floribunda rose (Woburn Abbey) was won by Patrick Madden who received a plaque donated by Mrs. M. Walton, and the best tea rose went to George Zoethout (this rose was one of the newer cultivars, -Jessika). The best arrangement in the show (10 and under) went to Raymond Bedard; the best arrangement in class 10 and over went to Steven Love, each of whom received a special award of an arrangement container, donated by Mrs. Barnett. Kim Fangrad won the highest number of points in the arrangement section: Other winners in the Hor- ticultural Section were; Jim, Allen, Tina Bruinsma, Darin Culbert, Julie Anne Culbert, John Dobie, Kim-- Jansen. -- John K loss, Genny Madden, David Mahood, Christine Martin, ValerieMontgomery, Gardner Moulton, Nick Trebish. Congratulations are also in order to the following members whose , beautiful ekhibits added se much to this show: Jennifer Dobie, 'Elsie Lindsay, Heather Lindsay, Michael Madden and Tim Reid. The Hobby, Craft and Collection Section was -judged by Miss Eileen O'Brien, whit) also did a wonderful job in a difficult section. Winners in the most original hobbies and collections were: Raymond Bedard, first and Brian Moulton, second, each of whom won a model kit. In 'this class (10 and over) winners were: Patrick .Madden and parin "ert who tied for first, Gardner Moulton, second, and Stephen Love, third. In Crafts made by Exhibitor --winners were ° Tina Bruisnma. first, Brian ann Yr. ,Moulton, second, and Raymond Bedard, third. - Mrs. Bev Zoethout assisted with the secretarial work in the absence of regular secretary, Mary Walton, and , also poured tea to the many parent .S - and guests who visited the show in the af- ternoon. Mrs. G &lily Madden, and Mrs. Agnes Jansen, along with some of the Juniors welcomed guests. Awards were presented by Mrs. Madden and Mrs. Jansen and ,representatiVe of the various ..denors Pi special .prizes to top Off a delightful day each child was given a souvenir- of Mexico, suitable for 'a dried arrangement. — • Mrs. Barnett thanked Mrs. Madden for her excellent leadership during her long absence and expressed ap- preciation to members of the GreenTiptithers' PORI fortheir exeellent. The scaffold and plywood Vtritcture was lifted from Its moorings and blown over and luckily no one was near it when it fell. Crews arrived 'on the scene immediately and put the tower back up and spot welded the joints to prevent a recurrence ,: (staff photo)
