Brant Counfy Roman Catholic Separate School Board came to the Huron Perth Board in September 1976 as Superintendent of Special Education'. A native of Seaforth, .he replaces John Vintar, who has taken a position as superintendent with the Dufferin-Peel Separate School Board. Mr. Eckert, whose salary was set at $37,000 will become Director on August 1. CHURCH NEWS Another date to keep in mind is Wednesday July 27 when the Congregation of, Benmiller United Church will be having a Pork Barbecue from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. This is a. special event and everyone is welcome. Tiekets will be $9. for adults and $2. fen' children under eight. Tickets can be obtained 'from Leonard Fisher (524-8039) or Beulah Long (524-6468) or any member of the congregation. SOFTBALL Softball games for Colborne Township have started. There is . a busy schedule and weather permitting it shows that Tyke Boys will be playing every Monday evening. Junior boys will play Wednesday evenings and Midgets will play Thursday evenings. Junior and senior girls both will play Tuesday evenings. This is a busy time of the year but if you have a few hours one. of these nights the teams will be glad to have you come and see the games. ` SOCIAL NEWS Mr. Kloeze, Hwy. 21, 'has returned home from a trip to Holland. Many visitors have been in the district to attend celebrations in Goderich and visit friends. Guests with Mr. 'nd Mrs. Terence Hunter last week were their son Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunter of Stratford. Also Cecil " and Bessie Ashton of Stratford Called to visit them last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dawson and children of CorUnna visited with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sherwood. Mr. and Mrs. Len Crawford of Wingham were also among the visitors to Goderich celebrations on Sunday and their relatives Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sherwood. Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Sch- wanz of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Schwarz and daughter. of London visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kaitting last week. ' - The sympathy of , the community is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Alex Watson, former resident of Colborne Twp. Backward Tirn Backward, Oh Tiitrb in th Flight. Many residents of Colborne Township; Goderich and the. community took advantage of the Steam Train Excursions on Sunday. Early Sunday morning 'Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sherwood took a bus load from Goderich to Guelph to get the train there. Mr. Malcolm Campbell and Mr. Fred Durst had this responsibility and among those on the bus Gordon and Gertrude Kaitting were two of the crowd. The trip to Guelph;; pissed ,quickly ,and.• when arriving the only people that seemed to be up and about were those at the bus station, and some cleaning up from the celebrations the night. before because they too are celebrating at this time, and a few at the Canadian Pacific Railway Station. This few at the station soon became a crowd of eager. people At 8:45 a.m, when all boarded the train at Guelph it was quite a sight. The steam train pulled up tothe plat- form, eight coaches long, five were the old coaches where the wintlows opened and you could lean out the window to see what was going on or get an eye full of cinders if you weren't careful , and three were the newer coaches, • probably air conditioned. Can you picture about 500 people hurrying to try and get in the cQac et?-Wezwaited a few minutes and looked4 around to see if we knew anyone and there on. the platform was Bill McGrath of Guelph, who some of the Goderich people will know as he was in the Unemployment Office in Goderich for years; down to the station to see-- Goderich folk he knew and of course, we had a nice visit as he lived in our apartment in Goderich for years. When we. went to get on the train the coaches were pretty well filled and we had quite a time to get a seat but we managed and Toot Toot Toot, we were on our way. It was a splendid trip, turning back the years in - memory to when you used to travel that ' way. The con- ductor coming for your ticket, the trainman going through -to see everything was o.k. and this time there were extra �mittee folk going through s"ecing things were o.k, and when nearing Goderich in - 11:i ';h • GOODGODERIC}I Where Have You Been?
