thrill! Pretty terrific, huh?
What a way to keep in con -
„clition.... United just' kept the
"old steam going and pushed
themselves (and the bed too,
of course!) over the 'finish
line in top form, Why, they
were barely pooped! (slight
oxaggeratim there). sure
was a: great time and I was
terribly proud of the team.
Their spirit is evident in
everything they undertake
arid this race was no ex-
ception. There was plenty of
exertion,.exercise,
exhaustidn and elation! If
anyone tells- you' we're a
"pushy- team, tell'ern for me
that they're right!
Reluctantly, Ell get down to
the •real business at hand:
soccer and the two games of a
couple of weeks ago. The first
game slated was the "B”
team's and the --score was a
hefty 4-1. 'We played St.
Mary's for this one ''Iand
although it wasn't overly
exciting, it was charged with
plenty . action and hard-
hitting soccer.
In the first half, 'Gotd
Budny and Mike Sully con-
tributed to the scoring, with
two lovely goals and this
period ended with Goderich
well up 'at 2-0,
With the second half of
play, the pressure never let
up as St. Mary's poured it on
and pushed for territory..
but we wasn't givin' up our
land to no ottsiders!!
Two more points ' were
totalled up in our favour_.
Jelin. Gottschalk took a
'penalty shot and naturally it
was a foregone conclusion
that he'd get'er in there! Ole
John's got. p steady -foot... too

The fourth and final goal
goes to Eric "the Beautiful"
Mitchell. He really hits 'em

Belpre we finished With
them, St. Mary's eetaliated
with a single goal and
managed to steal our, shut-
out.., but we're
magnanimous: we didialt
begrudge it!!
The second game was the
'A' team's and it was one of
your classic, solid, "in-
tellect ually-s timulating"
type games. It was steady,
forceful play from the word
"go" (although I don't recall
the referee yelling -go"... a
few other things, maybe !!
Unit'ed was. obviously the
aggressor for this nliffch.... it
was evident in the 'Way they
completely took over the play
and manipulated each move
and manoeuvre for --their
advantage. They _con-
centrated on -defensive, -hard -
thrusting action and carefully
nullified every movement on
Ingersoll's part. Goderich
simply wouldn't be or
couldn't be stopped from,
their objective,
"Supercoach- John Eicholz
set up ‘the team with a
distinctly defensive format
and we worked with merely
threeforwards. (There's
gonna be no more of this
"go.als against" routine if we
can help AO!) This line-up
was ...noticeably effective...,
I've seen United play well a
number of „ times and
repeatedly. with flair: but
this was a newer,—better-
coordinated United. They
anticipated the opposition
with accuracy and they
communicated their in-
tentions to their teammates.
with the acumen worthy of
the„ pros! I love this type of -
soc,cer and since I especially
love United, then you can
imagine the joy it gave me to
see them• so •:,swift in their
decisions and therefore:
subtly superior overall.
During the first half, the
action was particularly hot
and heavy:Within a very few
minutes of play "Sweet" Pete
Backx zapped in "numero
uno" in the scoring action.
The Flyers (that's Inger-
soll) tried every way they
could •to best us. hut as I've.

'mentioned before when
