Bruce Ubukata who ac-
companied 1•Hes a, fine.,
musician and made the piano
at GDCI sound like a concert
instrument in Carnegie Hall,
There just aren't words to
describe this combination of
Ubukata and Taylor. '
Bruce Ubukata also ac-
companied his aunt, Mrs..
Jean Knight whp sang The-- -
Sheep‘e of Things. This Ong
was the sad, sad tale of
unrequited love ... well, sort
•, of unrequited, •F guess,
judging from the fact that the
lady was left with a bundle of
joy to cradle and raise and
Jean Knight was the show
stopper with her delightful
portrayal of:the lady in the
lurch. At one point she ac-
tually ,broke right down in
uncontrollable weeping and
had to be encouraged to go on , •
by her accompanist. So much
fun for the whole audience.
"Arfother surprising per-
former on the program .was
Miss ,Ann Coulter Who sang
accompanied by her sister
Joan. I've not heard Ann sing
before this, and I was
thoroughly pleased by her
exceptional control and
haunting voice. Joan. turned
irla great performance as an
accompanist, too.
ladies' trio featuring
Shir --MacMillan, Lou
Bund d Jean Hanly was -
just gr t at the Jubilee
•Three Potpourri, ,too., .They,
were well accompanied by
m.,HarryaXorsell_
My favorite was:the--
medley of nursery rhymes
the ladies sang ... and I was
able to sing*along with them
because when I was in high
school, our girls' choir sang
that .very same number. It
really brought some
memories flooding back for
me.
Oh yes, and the, pan-
tomimes by Rob MacEwan
were very, very good. This
young man has real talent.
-R.emember him in The
Fanta'sticks? As '
weightlifter and as a young
lady getting dressed for a
night out on the town, Rob
was excellent.
Police Chief Pat King.
emceed the show and he was
just as good as ever. His
"lecture" was fun. I hadn't
heard that in years.
There have been a couple of
other highlights for me
during Jubilee Three. One
was hearing Mayor John
Willertz -Pf Bay City,
Michigan, speak to the large
crowd at the Sunday evening
band concert and saying,
"Goderich may .well be one of
the prettiest towns An North
America."
Of course, Mayor Willeftz
is a politician and was here to
say nice things, but he made
it sound convincing aiid
"from the heart". He cer-
tainly earned my favor with
that statement.
I also was thoroughly
entertained gratified
.... when the Goderich Legion
Brand\ 109 ,Ladies Auxiliary
beat the Bay City Legion
Ladies Post No. 18 two
games straight on Saturday.
" The Legion ladies were
bolstered somewhat by some
former Goderich Dodgers.
One of these was the former
Mary Kolkman who now lives
in London and ,plays ball for
Oakville, is a fine catcher and
a real pleasure to watch.
It was also great to watch
Jean Cruickshank in action at
third base: Despite the fact
she had two daughters,
Mickey and Carol, playing in
the game, Jean played the
game with plenty of verve
and spirit. Just tremendous.
Two more players stood out
in the line up .... Bev.Nright
and 'NOrMa Walter. Just
great to, watch. Elaine
Phillips bad a grand slam
homer to win the, first game
for,the Goderich ladies.
• The Bay City girlswere a
classy ball club, well coached
too. I guess they just- didn't
have the 'Sesquicentennial
