er Alexander
ugall was the son of a
who came out from
Scotland. He was a McGill
graduate in medicine. In
Goderich he was coroner and
jail surgeon as well as a
general practitioner. He
invested in real estate, in-
cluding several lots on North
street south of the Nelson
street corner and was briefly
the owner of Lot 8, on which
the Danny Wiggins (now
Craven) house stands. He
bought this in 1854 from the
Baron van Tuyle and later
sold it to Thomas Mercer
Jones, former Canada
Company commissioner,
Dr. McDougall left his
property in trust to a brother,
Sylvester, and William
Seymour, evidently a
brother-in-law, "to sell real
estate and invest the residue'
for maintenance of my
children until 21 or until my
daughter marries." His
brother and wife were to
occupy the , residence and
"treat my children with
parental care." The brother
and Mr. Seymour were ap-
pointed guardians over the
children, as well as executors
of the will. The doctor's estate
was listed at about $4,000.
