This Scotsman had' made
his mark here, From 1834,
Colborne Township was
governed by two com-
missioners. At Gairbraid, Dr.
Dunlop's residence,,Henry
Hyndman was elected, first
commissioner for the western
division. The eastern com-
missioner named at this time
was Michael Fisher, late of
York County, at the time
acquiring 5,465 acres in
Colborne and whose
descendants are with us
today in great number.
In 1834 also, when Captain
Robert Dunlop, R.N. (ret.)
ran for Parliament against
Col. Anthony Van Egmond,
and was elected by 69 votes to
2,,Hyndman performed the

returning officer.
When the militia was called
•out in the Mackenzie
Rebellion, Dr. Dunlop
commanded the Huron troops
and his company com-
manders were Henry Hyn-
dman, Capt. John. Annand,
Capt. Toin Luard and William
Fisher Gooding. Dunlop sent
