Jarpes Whiteford, newly
set&led on a farm near
Exeter, drove to London
twice a week, with a yoke of
o4en, when his wife and three
children were expected from
Ireland in 1832. They were 13
weeks my crossing, and their
landing was delayed by an
outbreak of scarlet fever.
During all that • time,
Whiteford would have had no
word as to the whereabouts of
his family.
Letitia Whiteford, then
aged three, lived on the
Exeter farm with her parents
until she married Andrew
Dreaney. The ceremony was
performed at Bayfield In
September, 1853, by Rev.
Robert Francis Campbell; a
former army officer who had
been_ first Anglican
clergyman in Goderich.
The Dreaneys moved
northward in Huron County,
settling on a 150 -acre farm in
the 4th concession of Ashfield,
two and a half miles west of
Dungannon. To them were
born eight children, and there
were 22 grandchildren.
Mr, Dreaney was a
End of an era in salt history. Here the Steamer Wyandotte
unloaded in April, 1959, the last imported rock salt before
Domtar mine started production later in the same year.

We have been'servicing for the town. of Goderich sin-
ce 1947. Starting as a Radio technician and expanding
over the years to our present Appliance Sales and
Service establishment.
We were probably the first retail business on the
Huron Road other than service stations or a grocery
store.
