Lewis Doyle
Judge Bernard Louis Doyle
was Junior Judge of Huron
County in 1883, and in 1902
was appointed Senior Judge,
a p'bsition he held until
retirement in 1916, serving 33
years on the Bench - by far
the longest term of any Huron
Judge.
He was born at Matilda,
Dundas County, December
5th, 1840. He graduated from
Goderich Grammar School,
and became a barrister in
1865. In 1872 he took a part-
ner, W.R. Squier, B.A. 'He
was a member of the
Goderich Collegiate Institute
board, entered town council
in ,1871; and was mayor of
Goderich in 1880481. In 1875 he
declined the ` Conservative
nomination for South Huron.
Judge Doyle was noted for
impartiality, fairness, ability

and judicial discernment. He
retired in 1916 and went to
Seattle, where, with his son -
