Gazetteer for 1886 lists the
astonishing total of 426 stages
in Ontario, nearly all said to
provide daily service, and
practically all connecting, at
one end or the other, with a
railway. They not only ac-
commodated passengers on
short journeys but were
feeders -to the steam railway
branches, more widespread

Affecting Huron county
alone, there were 16 stage
routes, according to this
Gazetteer: Bayfield -to
Clinton, Dungannon to
Goderich, Nile to Goderich,

Lucknow to Teeswater,
Morrisburg to Wroxeter,
Formosa to Wroxeter, Kin
cardine to Teeswater,
Seaforth to Wroxeter,
Walkerton to Wroxeter. With
six daily services, Wroxeter
must have been the stage
coach centre of the county.
The oddest route in this list is
Egmondville to Seaforth.
