Highest averages earn awards
Joan Coulter, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Coulter,
Goderich, is the winner of the
Robert MacKay Memorial
Scholarship at Goderich
District Collegiate Institute in
1977.
Miss Coulter attained the
highest average in Year 5
(Grade 13) to win the
scholarship. Her average was
95,1 percent.
It was announced last week
that Miss Coulter was also
one of six Ontario Scholars at
GDCI.
The Peter Adamson
Mttnorial Scholarship for the
highest average in Year 4
(Grade 12) calculated from
the aggregate of six Year 4
subjects is Anne Marie
Howard. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Howard, RR 3 Goderich. His
average was 90.5 percent.

the senior spelling bee. Can't
anyone over 16 spell? Come
out and be a good sport. You
couldwin a nice trophy and

and a trophy, please enter
quickly. Wouldn't it be nice to
have your child as the Jubilee
baby winner?

the best old fashioned men's,

There will also be a quilt
auction on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
upstairs in the arena. Jack
Riddell will be the auctioneer.

Sandra Currie, a resident of
RR 3, Wingham, is spending
her summer with the
Ministry of Natural
Resources, on the Experience
'77 Program, at Point Farms
Provincial Park, just north of
Goderich.
Sandra is the assistant co-
ordinator of the Visitors
Services Program. She is,
working under the super-
vision of Wendy Miller, the
co-ordinator of the Visitor
Services Program and Blake
Evans, acting Park
' Superintendent,
The Visitor Services
Program plans activities for
the summer, gives in-
formation to campers, and
shows campers around the
park,
Some of the activities
Sandra is helping plan are
puppet shows, barn dances,
the physical fitness trail,
movies and films at the barn,
crafts, plus many other
recreational programs.

church
parade
The •South Huron District
Orange Lodges held their
annual church parade to
Varna United Church on
Sunday. Flag bearers were
George Clarke of Bayfield
and David Roy of Varna. Wat
Webster of Clinton was acting
Marshall.
Rev. Alex Taylor welcomed
the Lodge members, -and
scripture from II Corinthians,
chapter 4, was read by
Master Ivan' McClymont. The
soloist, Alex Hamilton of
Grand Bend, brought a
beautiful message in the
song, "How Long Has It
Been?" Rev. Taylor's
message concerned loyalty to
the Church of Jesus Christ as
being an important part of
loyalty to fraternal
organizations such as the
Orange Lodge.
Following the service,
lunch was served by the
Varna Lodge and their wives.

Coughlan, son of Mr, and
Mrs. William Coughlan,
Goderich. Donald wins the
McKim Memorial Scholar-
ship for the .highest average
calculated from the
aggregate of seven Year 3
subjects. His average was
91.4 percent.
The Peter Adamson
Memorial Scholarship for the
highest average in Year 2
(Grade 10) goes to Eric
Courtney, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Courtney, RR 1
Dungannon. Eric's average
calculated from the
aggregate of seven Year 2
subjects was 89.6 percent.
Two Veteran's Memorial
Scholarships are awarded
each year to the two highest
averages in Year 1 (Grade 9).
These averages are
calculated from the
aggregate of seven Year 1.

The winners this year are
Ken Wood, son of the Rev.
and Mrs. John Wood,
Goderich, with an average of
92.6 percent; and Darrell
Kloeze, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harm Kloeze, RR 3 Goderich,
with an average of 90.9
