Bruce Sully, President of The Sully Foundation presented a $10,000 cheque last Wednesday to Branch 109 Royal Canadian Legion: Goderich for the Air Vice Marshal J.A. Sully Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is for post secondary school education and is open to residents of Goderich and district. Legion Past President Bill Clancy, Chairman of the Lancaster Memorial Committee, Branch 109 accepted the cheque on behalf of the Legion. Lancaster FM 213 is being released to The Sully Foundation in return for this money. It will be restored to airworthiness by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Foundation at Mount Hope Airport in Hamilton. The aircraft will be refinished as those in the Bomber Com- mand during World War II as a flying memorial. The Sully Foundation has arranged that Lancaster FM Going away ?... Don't forget to be a*Blood Donor before you go ! 213 will be returned to° Goderich once a year to be on display for Goderich residents and visitors. The Goderich branch of the Royal Canadian Legion first brought the Lancaster bomber war memorial for display at Sky Harbor Airport in 1969. Clancy said the Legion sees the Lancaster's new role as not much different from its present one. It will remain a war memorial, but an even better one because it will be air borne. Legion Officials say the maintenance burden was one of the reasons they accepted the Sully Foundation's offer. The Lancaster• was deteriorating from corrosion and attacks by vandals.
