Bruce Sully, President of
The Sully Foundation
presented a $10,000 cheque
last Wednesday to Branch 109
Royal Canadian Legion:
Goderich for the Air Vice
Marshal J.A. Sully Memorial
Scholarship Fund. This
scholarship is for post
secondary school education
and is open to residents of
Goderich and district. Legion
Past President Bill Clancy,
Chairman of the Lancaster
Memorial Committee,
Branch 109 accepted the
cheque on behalf of the
Legion.
Lancaster FM 213 is being
released to The Sully
Foundation in return for this
money. It will be restored to
airworthiness by the
Canadian Warplane Heritage
Foundation at Mount Hope
Airport in Hamilton. The
aircraft will be refinished as
those in the Bomber Com-
mand during World War II as
a flying memorial.
The Sully Foundation has
arranged that Lancaster FM

213 will be returned to°
Goderich once a year to be on
display for Goderich
residents and visitors.
The Goderich branch of the
Royal Canadian Legion first
brought the Lancaster
bomber war memorial for
display at Sky Harbor Airport
in 1969.
Clancy said the Legion sees
the Lancaster's new role as
not much different from its
present one. It will remain a
war memorial, but an even
better one because it will be
air borne.
Legion Officials say the
maintenance burden was one
of the reasons they accepted
the Sully Foundation's offer.
The Lancaster• was
deteriorating from corrosion
and attacks by vandals.
Historical moment
Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt officially opened
the Jubilee 3 Sesquicentennial celebrations in
Goderich Wednesday morning with the reading
of an official proclamation In Court House Park.
