Doug Spitzig waited out a walk and an error on Russ Pruder's hit Bowlers nip Steelers 6-5 8r Little Bowl needed a fifth inning run to grab a 6-5 win off the Lakeport Steelers in Industrial Softball action recently after leading the Steelers 5-1 after the first inning. The Bowlers got two force plays at the plate in the fifth inning after Lakeport. loaded the bases with none out. Mike Wildgen opened the Bowler scoring in the bottom of ,.the first. Wildgen drew a walk and came in on a two run blast by Dave Patterson. Ron Miller had scored the game's first run drawing a walk, stealing second and scoring on Ed Jones' single. Doug Stoll and Charlie Crawford each drew walks after Patterson's homer and Terry Powell and Rob Snell smacked singles to score them giving the Bowlers a 5- 1 first inning edge. Terry Powell scored the winner inrthe fifth beating out a Steeler error to get on, moving to third on Snell's single and scoring on a double by Ken Doherty. The Steelers chipped away at the Bowler lead for five innings. Wayne Draper drove one out of the park with no one on in the third. Brian Thompson singled in the fourth and scored on Tim McLean's double. McLean scored on Ron Miller's double, Miller drove one over the fence in the sixth to end the Steeler scoring. Brian McKenzie worked the first inning for the Steelers and gave up all five runs. Wayne Draper took the loss working six innings for the Bowlers and was touched six times while reliever Terry Powell gave up two hits to preserve the win. scored Sowerby and left Spitzig and Pruder aboard. Ken Meriam singled Spitzig in and Pruder scored the winner on a sacrifice fly by Harry Kerr. The Pontiacs boosted their lead to 7-1Tsen Kelly and Sowerby ,used errors to get on base and Spitzig smashed a two run double to score them. Meriam singled Spitzig home. John Hakkers singled in the third and scored on three Pontiac errors. McGee added another three in the fifth when Kerr and Kelly walked and Sowerby hammered a two run, double. Sowerby scored the winner on a sacrifice by Ken Daer. Dick Schoemaker managed ''One more run for the Birds in the sixth. He singled, moved to second on an error and scored on a single by Dennis Miskie. Rick Sowerby got the win on a six hitter striking out four while loser Ron Hodge was hit six times. Sports win 14-7slugfes.t Gord's Sports won their• third game of the season in Industrial Softball action recently grabbing a' 14-7 decision off Green and Parent Thunderbirds. The Sports hammered Jim , Martin 15 times in the win while the Birds managed only six hits off Des Courtney. The Birds opened a 4-0 lead that lasted until the third inning. Len Kolkman singled in the first, moved to third on an error td the Sports on Dick Schoemaker's hit and scored on a single by Martin. Walter Bell singled Schoemaker home. Pete Frayne doubled to lead off the second for the Birds. John Hakkers beat out a Sports error for a single and another Gord's mistake moved both men in position to score on Schoemaker's single giving the Birds a 4-0 lead. Duncan ,stepped into a double that drove in the tying and win ning run for the Rustproofers. Ziebart romped for seven more runs in the final two innings. Langlois led off 'the fifth with a walk, moved to second on Duncan's single and both scored on Dave Mclvor's double. Y` nnounce ti Builder defense beats Cleaners 4- Fisher Custom Builders rallied behind- pitcher Doug Fisher to edge French Cleaners 4-3 in Industrial Softball action recently. Fisher was touched a dozen times by the Cleaners but his defense yielded only three runs for the win. The Builders jumped to a two run lead in the first when Fisher led off the game with a single. He stole second and Jim Bell sent him home on a single. Bell moved down'on a Cleaner error and Jim.Durst grabbed a RBI with a single. The Builders boosted the margin to 4-0 in the fourth using three hits and an error to score. Jim Durst singled to start the rally but was grabbed at , second on ' a fielder's choice to. Dennis Lel3run. Gerry Durst sent LeBrun to third on a single and he scored on an error that sent Durst into scoring position. Jack MacKinnon drove in what stood as the winning run with a single before Don McWhinney got John Hoy and Keith Allen to fly out. The Cleaners moved to 1 within one in the bottom of the fourth. Ron Crown scored the first run when he grabbed a one out single and scored when Jim McWhinney smacked a double. John Orr hammered a two run shot out of the park before the Builders ended the rally., Don McWhinney worked five innings before getting -hurt in a collision with Builder first baseman Gerry Durst. He gave up six of the eight Builder hits and all the runs. Reliever ° Lyle Mabon was hit twice in two innings of shutout ball. Greg Smith singled Wilson in for a 5-4 Gord's lead. John Ginn beat out an error in the fourth and moved to third on a single by Williamson. Williamson moved to ' second on Rob Riehl's walk and he and Ginn' scored on Wilson's single. Gord's doubled their output in the final inning grabbing 'seven runs. Courtney singled to start it off and stole second. Phil Petrie drew a walk and an error to John Ginn loaded the bases for Williamson's double. Bob Riehl stepped. into a two bagger to score Williamson and Jim Ginn tripled to score Riehl. Ginn' scored on a triple by Wilson and Courtney' grabbed his second single of the inning to score Wilson with the 14th run. The Birds managed three runs in a last inning struggle for a win. Kolkman caught a one out single and moved to, second when Dennis Miskie 'was,hitbya pitch. Jim Martin slammed a two run triple and'' scored on Bell's fielder's choice.
