Former Flower Festivals and
'the comments by Jean
McKee.
The Flower- Festival had its
beginning when Mrs. McKee
brought back an idea fret
London, England. With her
assistance through its
growing pains coupled with a
willingness to share her
knowledge and talent, the
festival is now in its eighth
year, Being -a non-
competitive show, it brought
relief from tension and the
interpretive arrangements
are completed with little or no
persuasion, but for the en-
joyment alone.
"Celebrations. has ap-
propriately been seleet d.aas
this year's theme anti as in
previous years, the display
will be in the Court House
Council Chambers July 21, 22
and 23. -Co-convenors are
Edna Shaw and Dorothy
Feagan.
The popularity of Mrs.
McKee"s 'dream' is growing.
This year the Stratford
Horticultural Society will
depict "A Salute to the
Stratford Festival", it being
their, 25th anniversary. The
Goderich club wishes them
well with this as their first
endeavour:
As the club's contribution to
the Jubilee '3' Park, a Red
Oak (Quercus Rubra) and
nine flowering crabs (Malus
Radiant) have been planted.
Regarding the upcoming
Country Fair, July 7 and 8,
attendants are requiredfor
the club's booth and members
were reminded that their
donations of plants, baskets,
arrangements, etc. will be
needed. Hopefully each
member will provide six.
The Program Committee
outlined tentative plans for
the club's fall and winter
meetings. Of special.dnterest

Mrs. Harper's work shows
immense improvement as a
testimonial and one of her
pictures was acceptedby a
jury for the current exhibition
at the Woodstock Art Gallery.
Another of her pictures is
exhibited with the student
show at the school.
Guided by Mrs. Harper and
another Woodstock artist, the
Art Club was taken on a tour
of the gallery exhibit as well
as the high school. Both
exhibitions were impressive
with their variety of subject

execution.

historic residence built in
1864.
It is a fascinating tower of
four stories which conjures
up fantasies of prisoners
being locked in the top. There
are spacious rooms
surrounded by long slender
windows., Huge crystal
chandeliers hang from the
ceiling and marble fireplaces
grace several rooms. ' The"
large grounds are cooled and '
shaded by great old trees.
The club members enjoyed
a delightful picnic lunch on.
the broad stone patio with its
umbrella table and reclining
chairs,
After lunch, the entire
group- toured the art gallery
which is a large part of a new
and modern library building.
It seems fitting that art and
literature should flourish side
by side in a fine setting with
spacious well -lighted rooms.
It is something for a town like
Goderich which fosters so
many talented people to
aspire to and to keep working
in that direction.
