The Goderich Lions Club
provides a very useful service
for senior citizens of this
town. Since January 26, 1976
the Lions Club has sponsored
bus. transport?tion for senior
citizens for three hours a day,
two days a week.
Every Monday • and
Thursday from 10 a.m, to, 2,,
p.m. senior citizens can call
Bill Gautcher who operates a
24 seat school bus and be
picked up and taken
wherever they want to go
within the town limits.
Roger Turcotte of the Lions
Club estimates that about 45
Goderich senior citizens use
the bus in the winter months.
This number" dwindles to
about 21 by spring and the bus
service is discontinued during
the summer months due to
lack of demand.
Mr. Turcotte 'says this
summer the Lions Club will
be looking into the possibility
"of operating the bus service.
during% the peak week of
Jubilee `3 activities,
He says the bus service
costs the Lions Club about
$3,000 to operate for 40 weeks.
The senior citizens who use
the bus say it is a "won-
derful" service. They also
like their bus driver who they
say is very prompt.
"We wouldn't have been'out
summer
as much this winter if it
weren't for the bus because
we couldn't walk on the icy
sidewalks," commented Mae
McAulay who often uses the
bus.
Another senior citizen who
uses the bus says she couldn't
have gotten around at all this
winter . without the bus
because she had a broken leg.
