Jubilee list sports events
The Goderich Jubilee
Committee is offering
myriad of activities for al
ages during the Sesquicen
tennial celebrations and•
sporting activities will play
an integral part.
Sporting events have been
scheduled over the 12 days of
festivities and range from a
soap box derby for the
youngsters, to bed races,
tennis and golf tournaments,
softball, horsestoes and
water events.
On opening day, Wed-
nesday, June 29, the com-
mittee is hosting the first
Jubilee 3 golf tournament at
Sunset Golf and Country Club
North of Goderich. Visitors
may take advantage of two
shotgun starts, one at 8 a,m,
and another at 1 p.m. and also
two dinner sittings.
The following day, June 30,
the youngsters get into the
action with the judging of the
soap box carts .at the Log
Cabin in Court House Park at
0 a.m. The committee will
resent a trophy for the best
esigned cart. After the
udging youngsters will have

overnight to plan rac
a strategy before the 9 a.m
1 start on Friday morning. The
races will be run at the foot o
West Street and the entrants
will race in threecategories,
midget, junior and in-
termediate. The event is
sponsored by the Goderich
firefighters,
Later that day the Goderich
Lions Club will hold their
annual Aqua Carnival at the
beach that. includes several
zany water sports and races
competition. The water
sports action begins at 12
noon at the beach and at 2
p.m. the bed races will begin
on The Square. This event
promises to provide some
entertainment as more than
50 teams will be competing in
two divisions.
On Saturday, July 2, the
committee is sponsoring a
horseshoe tournament at 11
a.m, with registration
preceding the play at Jim
Hayter's car lot on Kingston
Street at 10:30 a.m. At the
harbour' in the afternoon
water sports will continue
during the second day of the
e Lions Club Aqua Days.

at Agriculture Park.
The Port of Goderich is also
famous as a shipping town
and on Sunday, July 3, sailors
and perhaps some would-be
sailors will be participating in
the regatta for racing

a.m. Later in the afternoon
the Goderich Sailing Club will
hold a sail past ,and parade
and the Alexander Henry
Coast Guard ice breaker will
be open to the public in the
harbour.
There will be plenty of
exciting softball action on
Sunday as the Bay City and
Goderich Legion ladies take
to the diamond at Agriculture
Park for a return match at 4
p.m. Following the ladies'
game the Goderich Industrial
Softball league will hold four

The Huron -Perth County
Roman Catholic Separate
School Board will eliminate
the •position of one of its two
academic superintendents
this summer it was learned at
the board session in Dublin
Monday night. The decision
for elimination was made in
committee -of -the -whole May
16.
This will leave the board
with the positions of a
director of education, one
academic superintendent and
one superintendent of
business.
The board is presently
discussing the hiring of a
director of education to
replace John Vintar who
resigned . April 25, effective
icily 31. Mr: Vintar has been

position as superintendent of
schools with the Dufferin-
Peel Roman Catholic

initial preparation of a basic
curriculum, with input from
administration, was made to
a committee of teachers and
the religion consultants who
made a number of changes,
additions and deletions. Then
it was taken to a committee of
parents who represented the
two - counties. They made
more changes. Then it was
presented to the priests of the
deanery who also made
changes and gave their moral
support of the curriculum,
The board tabled the report
for the next meeting to give
themselves time to study it
before giving final approval.
