Bron -Bruce, L1ijjack
Riddell and Murray Gaunt
survived the election with
little difficulty.
In 'Huron -Bruce especially,
the Progressive Conservative
candidate Sam MacGregor
ran a high.powered slick
campaign although it didn't
seem to turn on the voters in
the way that had been hoped.
The people there were ob-
viously quite contented with •
the komespun campaign
waged by Gaunt - hand
shaking and just plain talking
with the voters.
In Huron -Middlesex, Anson
McKinley failed to rally the
support he needed to break
Riddell's grasp on the Riding.
People didn't seem to care
that McKinley promised to
fight his party if it was for the •
ultimate good of Huron -
Middlesex. The voters
probably thought that with
Davis as leader of the PCs,
McKinley, if sent to Toronto,
would have even less chance
of being heard when in
disagreement, •than
Opposition •member Jack
Riddell.

Getting away from the
election for a moment, the
Signal -Star came in for somq.,i
criticism" last week because -4'i
there was not a story in the
paper about the ' 25th an-
niversary of Her Royal
Highness Queen Elizabeth II.
_Of course there have been
-numerous pictures of school
children in the area being
presented with the Queen's
Jubilee medals....but the
criticism centered ardund the
fact that this newspaper
should have run a story about
the Queen's Jubilee as a
separate and distinct item.
Certainly every daily paper
in the country - as well as all
the electronic media -
reported fully on the Queen's
Jubilee. This newspaper felt
it° had covered the event,
certainly from the local
aspect which is our main
interest.
But forjhose who may feel
that the British Monarchy has
been slighted, the Signal -Star
apologizes for its lack of
coverage where the Queen's
Silyer Jubilee is concerned.
The Signal -Star also
apologizes to those readers
who think there's dy
been too Much fus htbe
local paper regarding the
Queen's Silver Jubilee. •
