is the reward
BY CHRIS WILDGEN
The most important aspect
of any sport is the enjoyment
received from participation.
Doing it well may be a final
reward. but is not a
prerequisite for enjoyment.
as• what may be considered
well for one person, may be
above another's aspirations.
It is important to realize your
own standards and abilities,
The real profit from the
sport of golf comes from the
relaxation that you feel at the,
end of a game. You've
walked for what seems like
hours, toting a golf, bag.
You've had to concentrate on
your shots, force tense
muscles to relax in order to
execute a smooth shot, and,
lastly, put muscles into use
that you use only when
golfing. Combine these
things, and, the final result is
relaxation and a sense of
well-being.
There is also the social
aspect of golfing. One of the
best social events is the two -
ball, It .is a mixed event and
the golf is always followed by
a meal. The two -ball on
Saturday, June 4, was
followed by a barbecue,
which ended an excellent day.
First place for the event was
Evelyn Evers and Stan
Telford, Dave Graf and Joyce
Bolton finished second and
Barb Lassaline and Bob Boak
were third. June 19 is the date

ball, which will be 18 holes,
beginning at 3 p.m. and will
be followed by a pot -luck
supper.
The event for Sunday was

nament, which is a tour-
namentsponsored by the
Lion's in appreciation of the
work done by the referee's

Remember, golfers, the
more you play, the better you
feel and play. If you're feeling
tense or tired and sluggish,
try a game of golf for some
time out of doors and some
clean, fresh country air -

Vikings win .Huron -Perth
From -fourth to firs
BY TD •
The GDCI senior Vikings
won the Huron -Perth soccer
championship by defeating
Listowel 3-0 last Tuesday in
Listowel.
Mark Frayne scored the
only goal of the first half on a
cross ball from his left wing
position, Chris Wood upped
the margin to 4 two on a
penalty shot in the second.
half. Mark Bellinger got the
third Viking goal when he
tipped in Jed DeJong's
crossing shot late in the
game.
Again, it was the strong
defensive play of the Vikings
which brought victory.
Listowel pressed . for
numerous scoring chances
but the defence, backed by a
strong performance by goalie
Tim McLean held the Lords
at bay.
The championship came on
the heels of a four win, two
Toss record in regular season
play that gave the Vikings
fourth place in the standings.
They eliminated ' Stratford
Central in the semi-finals and
then went on to win the final
over Listowel, one of the
teams that had beaten the
Vikings during the regular
schedule. '
Coach of the championship -
winning Vikings is Ray
Donnelly, better known for
his success as mentor of the
senior Vikings football team.
This was Donnelly's first
attempt at coaching the
European variety of football,.
but he ' has no delusions
concerning a permanent
switch to the game with the
round ball,
Donnelly gave credit for the
team's success to the players
themselves, and their ability
to work together through the
season to improve their
game. For their part,
however, the players were
unanimous in their ap-
preciation of the
organizational",
