He said it appeared the premier was breaking his promise to curry votes on a subject that about which everyone was concerned. The three candidates were asked to comment on public transportation in the Riding keeping in mind that there was no public system available, and what effect they felt a public system would have and what might be expected. McKinley said Huron -Middlesex was blessed with an excellent system of secondary roads adding that the riding badly needed these roads for its economy. He said a good secondary road system "is more important to more people than a four lane highway". He said he did not feel the Riding needed a *four lane expressway but felt that one was needed as far as Stratford to handle traffic heading into the urban end of the province. Shirley Weary asked if she was "out to lunch" or was the question about public transportation? Weary said the Riding did not benefit from a public transit system pointing out that there was no train service for people here unless they made arrangements to meet a train in London or Stratford. She added that 'he bus service here was deplorable. She said she had had a recent experience with bus service here and found that at certain times a bus was non-existent in Goderich and had to be met in Clinton. Riddell said he endorsed the comments made by Weary adding that he would "dearly love to be able to catch a train and avoid having to drive to Toronto to sit in the legislature" (But he assured everyone he would continue to drive.) Riddell said it was a real crime the way government has taken business away from transit firms in some areas and had allowed firms to discontinue service in others. He said he understood concerns of people here who didn't drive since about the only reliable way to get to a large centre is by car. MCKinley was asked why the PCs had sought the election and why the party felt it was im- portant to the province to dissolve the minority Summer council dates named The summer meeting schedule for Goderich town council has been established. The PC candidate said he felt the election was good for the province since it served two needs. He said it gave voters an opportunity to go to the polls and select the government of their choice and that irboosted the economy of the province by injecting money into it, money that stayed in the province. McKinley added that although he felt an election was healthy he didn't know whether it was needed. Weary said she did not feel the election was necessary but said that surely this time the premier should be able to understand that the voters of the province want a minority gover- nment.. She said the PCs had endeavored to form a majority several times and failed and this time should understand that the people want what they voted fa_ Riddell said he felt the province needed rain more than an election.
