"The hospital clause wasn't the only thing in that guidelines. I just couldn't vote for 'everything in the amendment and put Ontario out of the AIB. That would have been irresponsible, but I did stay out of the House to show my protest in the hospital issue." • Riddell also said he has been called an "outfielder" in the Legislature, "If I am an outfielder, I was strong enough to hurl the Farm Income Stabilization Skydivers asked to drop in at airport The Goderich Airport committee passed a motion last Wednesday evening to support a proptised sky diving competition in principle. Approval of an application for federal government funding to aid with the costs of airport expansionhas not been received yet. Allen Ball, airport manager reported to the committee at Wednesday evening's meeting that the airport's taxi and threshold lights are not working because of im- proper transformers. Dave Gower of the airport maintenance sub -committee said the ,lights should be working within six to eight weeks. Gower also told the com- mittee that it was "time to take some safety precautions around the airport." He rtgeern mended restricted :pedestrian access to the alittiiiit and fencing around 'SA clear Bill back to the drawing board," Riddell said. "That Bill was submitted again in the Legislature and the second time contained some policies supported by the Liberal party." "I have had an effeltive voice in the Legislature," he claimed. "And I will continue to be heard." Riddell hit hard at the $7,2 billion deficit under which the province is reeling. He said that interest charges amount to 33.000,000 a day - $2,000 a minute, There's a debt of $840 over the head of every child born in this province. Riddell told his audience. The Liberals, Riddell went on, are pledged to strive for a balanced budget. He called it a "mammoth job" but said the Liberal party was prepared to work for it. Job creation is a must. Riddell said. "But we won't do by spending the $22. - $25,000,000 it is costing us running around the country trying to get re-elected,— Riddell stated, The Liberals would take immediate steps to stimulate the small business sector where it is found that over 60 per cent of the work force is employed. For every new job small business can create, Riddell said, the Liberals would subsidize 20 per cent of the salary to a maximum of $2,000. The Liberal proposal would cost an estimated $200,000,000. "But there would be more income tax paid and people would be off the Unem- ployment Insurance Com- mission payroll," he reasoned. The recently announced Progressive Conservative job creation scheme is designed to create 100,000 new jobs each year. , "But Davis is not telling you that the economy itself generates between 85 and 90.000 new jobs each year," Riddell pointed out. The Dashwood area farmer spoke briefly about the concern of farmers for the supply of oil, gas and elec- tricity needed in the rural areas each year. He suggested that the present 1.3 per cent of the total provin- cial budget spent on the farming industry in Ontario is inadequate, and said that more study should be directedoward the "renewable sources of energy we can grow ,,t. Riddell reported to his. workers that one young person at GDCI had pointed out at a session earlier in the day that the Ontario gover- nment was "experimenting 'with their lives" where education was concerned. The local member said that 85 per cent of the Liberal educational policy has been incorporated ' into the government's recent educational policy changes and expressed his satisfac- tion that the "core curriculum is back". The former teacher said one of the Canadian Studies, a mathematics subject, an English course and one science will be requi4c1 On the timetable of every Grade 9 student in the province beginning in September this year. "But we have a long way to go yet," he told his workers. Riddell was introduced by Dan Murphy who said Jack Riddell is conducting a "positiveiding. campaign" in the R 44 Correction Against region!
