The GDCI senior soccer
team advanced to the Huron
Perth championship finals
with a 1-0 semi-final victory
over Stratford Central in
Stratford, Friday, The vic-
tory put the Vikings in
against Listowel Tuesday in
the league final in Listowel.
The Vikings who finished
the regular schedule in fourth
place with four wins and two
losses, lost 1-0 to I istewel
during the regular schedule:
Coach Ray Donnelly ex-
pected another close contest
in the championship game,
and felt it would probably be
a physical game, based on the
earlier meeting of the two
teams.
Jed De Jong was the goal -
scorer for the Vikings in their
win over Stratford Central.
The game's only goal came
on a kick from 091,
about half way through the
econd half, and followed a
series of rushes on the
Stratford goal by the Vikings.
Coach Donnelly felt the
game produced the best
soccer his team has been
involved in this season, with
the two evenly matched
teams going all-out, all the
way. The Vikings played well
defensively and had an edge
in ball control in the second

The Goderich Superstars
lived up to their name in their
last two encounters drubbing
the Goderich Sailorettes 19-14
and edging the Goderich
Diamonds 12-9. 'The Super-
stars averaged two runs an
inning in their game with the
Diamonds and highlighted
their game with the
Sailorettes by rallying for
eight runs in the sixth inning
for the come from behind win.
The Diamonds jumped to a
two run lead in the first inning
of the Diamond game getting
runs from Lori Keller and
Colleen Straughan. -In the
second Marilyn MacCuspey
and Nancy Ferguson scored'
to keep the Superstars, up two
after Karen Pond and Gail
Scheneiker scored for the
Diamonds. Dale Oke, Cathie
Sturdy and Bonnie Durnin
tallied for the Superstars in
the third to give them a 7-2 -
lead but Sue Kolkman, Linda
Talbot and Dawn Westbrook
replied for the Diamonds to
get them back in the game.
Lori Keller chipped in one
more run, Straughan one,
Oke one and Durnin one to
round- out -the -Supers tar -
scoring and give them the 12-9
„edge.
In their game against the
Sailorettes the Superstars
played even up for four in-
nings. before dropping behind
12-9 and setting the stage for
an eight run rally. The
Superstars rolled up a 5-0 lead
in the first getting runs from
Falkiner, Oke, Draper,
Sturdy and MacCuspey
before the Sailorettes
managed three outs. Draper
and Sturdy each hammered
home runs.
Keller added a single run in
the second inning to boost the
lead to 6 - p before the
Sailorettes • began to click.
Carol and Judy Cruickshank
each notched runs in the third
inning while Draper replied
for the Superstars.
Wendy Pruder started off a
rally in the bottom of the
fourth that brought the
Sailorettes to a two run lead•,
Pruder singled and Wanda
Frydisich .smacked..a horae

Cruickshank followed with
back to back doubles and Lori
Cruickshank singled to keep
things awing.. Kris Maillet
hammered a second home
run in the inning before the
Superstars could end the
charge.
Keller singled in the top of
the fifth • to boost the
Superstars back to a load,
when she. moved around on
Dawn Westbrook's single.
Connie Falkiner grabbed a
single and Dale Oke ripped a
double to. score Keller and
Westbrook,
Judy Cruickshank singled

First of all, I'd like to
remind everyone of the two
ball this Saturday, June 4,
beginning at 5 p.m. It's a
"three club only" event. Sign
-up - at-ther-pro-shop—atid-0
Saturday bring your own
meat for the barbeque. 11
should be another good day
and at least as much fun as
the other two ball events
(which were a lot of fun).
The clubhouse is now open
at 8 a.m. on week mornings
and 7:30 on weekends, so all
you early birds can drag the
sleepyheads out of bed for an
early genie of golf. What a
better way to begin your day?
There's nothing like .a golf
game bright and early in the
morning, before most people
are active and the heat has

Ladies' Night was the first
of ten Pin Days for the year,
which means 18 holes of golf.
Pin Day was a success, as
was the Wine and Cheese
Party which followed, thanks
to Betty and Evelyn. •The next
Pin Day is June 9, so ladies,
be prepared for another 18.

township baseball officials
met to discuss the upcoming
summer baseball season.
Four teams from Goderich
Twp. will play competitive
ball: Sr. boys, 14 , - 17; Sr.
Girls: 14 - 17; Jr. girls, 11 - 13;
and Sr. Girls 11 - 13. Teams of
10 yrs. and younger will play
just in Holmesville.

Bantams start season with two Victories
The B-luewater Inter-
national Bantams started
their WOAA baseball
schedule on a winning note
with a pair of victories last
week. had two hits. Rob McDonald
In their home opener last

outlasted Seaforth by a 13 - 9
score.
David Moore led Goderich
at the plate with two triples, a
single and a walk in four
trips. Larry Madge, Ted
Doherty and Dan Maillet
each had two hits while Brian
Shewfelt, Rob McDonald and
Mike Hodges each had one hit
for the winners.
Maillet started on the
mound for the truckers but
ran into control problems in
the fourth inning and was
relieved by Mike Hodges, who
was credited with ther win.
The Truckers made it two
straight with a 7-0 win over
Chesley on Sunday in
Chesley,
Dan Mainers went the
distance, giving up only four'
hits and walking two batters
over the seven innings.
Maillet also swung a hot bat
with two triples and a single
