The funds saved by this action of the Federal 'Government over a five year • period will be used to develop the livestock industries in the provinces affected. "OFA is very pleased with the two programs Mr, Whelan has announced for Ontario. In fact the major incentive • program for grain • storage and handling was recom- mended by OFA when the availability of funds was first made known. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and "Food, . in -consultation with OFA, worked out the proposals that have been implemented by Mr, Whelan," said Mr. Hannam. The first program is one of incentives which will be available for farmers to build storages• for grain or high moisture grain, corn silage and haylage, dryers, per- manently installed grain handling devices (augers, conveyors, legs) and feed preparation and distribution . systems including scales. This incentive will be a direct payment from the federal government to the farmer of 30 percent of ap- proved capital expenditures up to a maximum of $1,500 per farm. Total cost of this program over five years is estimated at $13.4 million. The second program will e involve the federal govern - he ment funding tests and demonstrations of new low- erich PUS to intervene for citizens izing that changes thods of costing and of electricity could homeowners and w electrical energy mers being Assessed portion of the costs, kb Public Utilities on will be an in - at the Ontario ent :lets ans, ar aruudians swallow ods of doses• of medi- ad' year, Many of• are over•the•counter' uch as cou€h•;eme- ntacids, laxatives and he tablets. ay it safe with,•titese ravailable n divines: 1•s read the label aihd directions carefully frequent use' and see'- doctor if syMpttiiti§ aCl`medieinet safely too .eof eltifdre"a 4 Energy Board hearingsinto the Cost and Pricing of .Electricity, through the Ontario Municipal Electric Association (O.M,E.A.). The hearing, to be held in Toronto and which will begin on Monday. May 16, 1977, is expected to last several months. The .announcement wasmade by Mr. Harry Worsell, Chairman of the Goderich Public Utilities Commission • "The members of• the Commission believe that the group intervention is the most logical and effective method of .obtaining the best representation possible. It does not add to already high costs by the duplication of effort, nor, does it prolong the time span of the hearings. These represent additional costs that would ultimately Ee- reflected through the electric bills of all of our customers, " explained Mr. Worsell: The O.M.E.A. has developed an intervention team comprised of legal counsel knowledgeable in energy matters, -energy consultants, commissioners and municipal management people who have been preparing for the hearing for many months, • studying the ten volume report on the Costing and Pricing study that will form the basis of the hearing. The objective of the intervention team is to obtain the Costing and Pricing system best suited to the needs of the municipal utilities and their residential, Icomniercial and industrial customers.
