At the May meeting of the Hospital Auxiliary the members agreed to purchase teaching equipment for the Alexandra Marine and, General Hospital. This in- cluded a Resuci-Anne, and infusion arm and an in- tubation model, »The total cost is $2,873.05. President Mrs. C. Worsell presided. Routine business included reports by the conveners on the progress of the Penny Sale and Tea to be held on Thursday, May 26 at St. Georges Parish Hall. p' The June meeting will be a noon luncheon on June 2 at the Candlelight Restaurant. Elaine Townshend of Clinton, a guest at the meeting spoke on- Alpha Huron Awareness League for Physically Handicapped Adults in Huroh County. This non-profit organization is endeavouring to have public facilities adapted to the use of the disabled without interfering in their use for the average person. Many interesting facts were disclosed during the question period. Plant auction There was an excellent turnout for the annual "Plant Auction" of the Goderich Garden Club which was held in Victoria School Gym the evening of May 18. Acting auctioneers were Edith Argyle, (who originally organized this event), and Sue Scott. Plant selection was tremendous, bidding was brisk and a 'good time was had by'all. Two books given as door prizes, "A to Z Gardening", and "Prairie Gardens" were won by Frances Armstrong and Stella Crawford respectively. Members were reminded by Edith Argyle to be sure to start plants now for the July 7 and 8 "Country Fair". Each one is expected to bring at least six • items and be prepared to help attend the booth. Preparations for the July 21, 22, 23 "Flower Festival" are well underway, although more volunteers would be welcome. A workshop will be held, and ,participating members will be notified beforehand. Suggestions were made re a bus tour instead of a June meeting. Plans have not been finalized to date. Nile UCW finalize plans for supper The Nile United Church Women's meeting was held May. 12 at the -home of Mrs. Frank Scott. Mrs. John- ston, the president pt;esided for the business. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. There were 12 members, two visitors and two children present and the roll call Was answered by grandmother's favorite remedy. Treasurer's report was given by Mrs. E. Feagan. The correspondence was read including items from the report from London Con- ference. Spring Executive meeting to be held Blyth May 24th. Plans were finalized for the supper to be held May 25. Mrs. Scott was in charge of the devotional period. The theme was Missionary Enterprise. The call to worship was followed by the scripture reading, She also read an article entitled "Why we should believe in Missions". Mrs, -Scott introduced the guest speaker; Mrs. D. Rolston from Goderich, whose daughter and .son-in- law are missionaries in Haiti. She and her husband have been over to visit them. She told about life there and some of their customs, how terribly expensive groceries are and their very low wages. It made the Nile ladies very grateful to be living in a country like Canada. Mrs. Rolston presented each one present with a string of beads she had brought back with her. Provincial Park, had a busy holiday weekend organizing activities for campers' children. Here, she•watches while several children paint rocks. Later in the afternoon a baseball game was organized. Special service at St. George's Former Colborne man , ordained On Thursday evening, May corn grown this year were on 19 at a special service in St. George's .Anglican Church, Paul Francis Linklater was ordained a Deacon of the Anglican Church. Paul, a former Colborne Township ,man, is the son of Mrs, Ann Linklater and the late Francis Linklater. He is married to the former Carol From of Preston. He was an honor graduate of Huron College; London. He will be serving in Trinity Anglican Church in Galt. SOFTBALL /.'here was ,a good at- tendance of boys and girls interested in softball in Colborne Township at• the Registration held in Colborne Township Hall recently. The coaches will soon be making plans to start the games for the season, They usually commence toward the end of June. The number of girls over 17 years interested in softball was also very en- couraging and they hope to have a team. W.I. Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute will meet today, May 26, at 1:45 p.m. Mrs. Shirley% Hazlitt will be the guest speaker and Mrs. 0. Falkiner will give the report of the officers conference. Members remember the plant and seed exchange. As there are several interests of business, a good attendance is needed. Come and bring a friend. SOCIAL NEWS The holiday weekend was enjoyed by, many in the community either having their family home or visiting. Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson and family spent a holiday over the weekend in !Virginia and, West Virginia, enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountains.
