CHURCH NEWS
Rev. H. G. Dobson attended
a conference from Tuesday to
Thursday in Sarnia at the
Canterbury Inn. Mrs. Alvin
Kerr was the lay delegate
from this charge. There were
about 300 ministers and 300
lay people in attendance.

ill with flu on his return from
conference and Sunday
service at Dungannon United
Church was taken by Mr.
Lorne Sparks, retired
minister from- north of..
Lucknow. His sermon was,
Why did God allow himself to
be crucified? The choir sang
an anthem with Shelley
Rivett at the organ.
Everyone is invited to
worship next Sunday which is
Pentecost, the birthday of the
church.

Pupils of Grade 7„ room 8
went to Camp Wyoka near
Clifford for a day and a half
on Tuesday and Wednesday
of last week. It was an ex-
perimental camp in co-
operation with the Maitland
Conservation Authority.
The students participated
in various activities. Actual
lessons included wild flower
studies, a survival game,
orienteering and a plant
survey.
At night they had a camp
fire, sang songs . and had a
marshmallow roast. The
nirght concluded with a hike
'and a hike and a snack.
On Wednesday the pupils
' finished up their activities
and arrived back at the
school at 4:30 p.m. counting
the trip as a success.

were Senior Boys, Firebirds,
Swingers 3, Runners.

On Friday morning of last
week an assembly was held in
the gyum commemorating
the Silver Jubilee of Queen
Elizabeth II. The program
opened with 0 Canada
followedby the Lord's
Prayer. Mike Frey read the
scripture. Mrs. Tebutt's class
under the direction of Mr.
Cameron sling Blowin' in the
Wind.
Mr. Murray Gaunt M.P.P.
spoke briefly to the student
body on the monarchy and
what it means - -to us as
Canadians.
Mrs. Wilson played for the
singing of God Save the
Queen.
Each student received a
silver coloured medallion as a
souvenir of this event.
The hot weather has
brought out some very at-
tractive cool, colourful
clothing but also some bare
midriffs and backs and
generally brief outfits. Do the
parents really feel this is
proper garb for a learning
atmosphere?

There was a pot luck dinner
and meeting of Dungannon
U.C.W. in the church
basement on Monday at 12:30
with 24 visitors and 22
members. Mrs. Elma Reed
and Mrs. Tinie Loftenherg
welcomed the guests at the
door.
Mr$, Cecil Blake had
several photos on display for
perusal. Rev. G. H. Dobson
said the grace and everyone
sat down to tables decorated ,.

arrangements.
After dinner a sing -song
was enjoyed with Mrs. Carol
Reed at the piano. The
devotional was taken by Mrs.
Amy Wiggins who read
chosen verses from Ruth on
