GQDERICN SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, MAY 26, 1077 Soccer Champs The Holmesville Public School senior boys' soccer team captured the 1976-77 soccer .title_: recently at a tournament held in Goderich. The boys won every game they played in the double knockout one day tourney to take the pen- nant back to Holmesville for the year. (staff photo) Lawn bowlers playing The Goderich Lawn Bowling season opened on Monday, May 23 with � af- ternoon and evening bowling. Irene White, president 'of ladies club welcomed the bowlers and invited them to stay after the pot luck supper and enjoy bowling or cards. Harold Knisiey, president of the men's club, thanked all those who had been involved in the spring clean-up and invited two life members to throw the first balls - Ernie Pridham and Harry Schakelton had,the honour. Sixty bowler's participated in the afternoon game and 37 in the'evening game. Afternoon and evening bowling will continue and the general public is invited to visit the greens on Picton St. W. to enjoy a ga me of -bowling either as• spectators or par- ticipants. Stratford Central is in second place with four wins and a tie in five games. Ray Donnelly's senior Vikings climbed into a second .place tie with Stratford Central by virtue of their 3 - 1 win over Madill. The Vikings are now possessors of a 4 - 1 won -lost record, while Stratford has three wins and two ties. Listowel holds down first place with four wins and, h tie in five games. Eric Mitchell and Dennis Donnelly each had three Sowerby triples to beat French A come from behind two run burst in the seventh in- ning pushed McGee Pontiacs to a 4-3 win over French Cleaners in Industrial Soft- ball action Sunday. Ron 'Sowerby slammed a two run triple with one out in the seventh to give his club the win, French scored twice in the top of the final inning to take over from a 2-1 deficit, George Sutton drew first blood in the game in the fourth inning when he led off with a triple and scored on Frank MacDonald's sacrifice, Rick Sowerby tied the. game in the bottom of the inning with a round tripper off Don McWhinney. The blast was the second hit McWhinney gave up in the game, - Harry Kerr boosted McGee in front in the fifth. He singled and moved to second on Paul Kelly's walk and scored on a French error to Ron Sowerby. Ron Crown came off the bench in the top of the seventh to lead off a French rally with a base on errors. Ron Klages scored him with a triple and Klages gave French the lead on Brian McLean's single.
