Huron -Perth Champs

boys championships respectively at the Huron -Perth track meet held at Seagram

GDCI track team takes
second in Huron -Perth
The Goderich District
Collegiate Institute track and
field team gave an im.
pressive performance at the
Huron -Perth Track Meet held
at Seagram Stadium
' Waterloo last week, claiming
second spot behind Stratford
Central and producing two
division champions.
Stuart Crew .--and Dave
MacKenzie won the midget
and junior boys titles
respectively each with two
firsts and' a second for a 28
point total.
Crew captured' the midget
championship with a record
setting time of 15.4 seconds in
the hundred metre hurdles
and added a first in the 100
metres and a second in the 200
metres.
MacKenzie took the junior
boys division on the strength
of a Huron -Perth record
setting jump of six feet in the
high jump, a record time of
17.1 seconds in the 110 metre
hurdles and a second place
finish in the 100 metres.
The Goderich team got an
outstanding effort from- all -
the team members and 24
athletes qualified for the
WOSSA championship held in
London Wednesday and
today. The second place
finish in the Huron -Perth
meet was the highest for a
Goderich team in ten years.
Other midget boys point
getters were John O'Keefe
who finished fourth in the 400
metres and sixth in the triple
jump. Larry' Madge chipped
in with a fifth in the 1,500
metres and s sixth in the 3,000
metres and Mike Hovey
finished fifth in the discus and
third in the javelin. Glen
Osborne added a second in'
the high jump and "Ed Van
Osch finished sixth in the
javelin.
100 metres and third in the
high jump. Joni Thompson
took a second in the 800 metre
hurdles and was followed by
teammate Sue Jeffrey.
Denise Mitchelmore finished
second in the javelin.
Mark Hqvey gave a strong
performance in three events
in the senior boys division and
finished second in the total
points column behind Pat
Phillips of Central Huron.
Hovey took firsts in the shot
put and discus and added a
third in the javelin for 26
points. Phillips won the
division with firsts in the
triple and' long jump and a
second in the 100 metres.
Kevin Such of Goderich
shared the spotlight with
Phillips as he set one of two
records for senior boys with a
leap of 6'2" in the high jump.
Jeff Baechler and Bernie Van
Osch finished one-two in the
110 metre hurdles and Keith
McLellan added a third in the
400 metres. The relay team of
McLellan, Baechler, Don-
nelly and Pete' Crew took a
second. in -the -4 .x.400-m.e.tre
relay and finished fourth in 4
x 100 metre relay.
Virginia Such topped the
senior girl competitors with a
first in the shot put and a
second in the discus.

finished second VI the shot put
and Marg Kovacs finished
fourth in the 900 metres'?

Dennis Donnelly a third in the
shot put.

the 4 x 100 metre relay.
Sandra Rowe led the junior
girls with a second place
finish in the shot put, a third
in the discus and a fifth in the
javelin competition. Donna
