Dry weo#her hurts
Despite widely scattered
showers on Tuesday - the first
rain in nearly a month -
agricultural officials are still
concerned about the
unusually dry weather that
has plagued Huron County
this spring, particularly the
northern•half of the county.
Don, Pullen, agricultural
representative for Huron,
expressed concern Tuesday
that if a '`good steady,
general rain" doesn't come
soon, the hay and spring
grain crop could br riously
affected,
"The hay crop is at a
standstill right now, and
badly ne=ds a rain this
week,',' Pullen said.

mination of some grain and
corn crops, and without rain,
few of the weed sprays will
have any effect.
Unlike their counterparts in
Essex County, who are rained
out, Huron corn farmers have
had perfect sowing conditions
for a month,, and Pullen
reported that most of the corn
is now sown,•ahead of the
May 24 deadline.
"We may bless the 'heavy
snowfall we had last winter
after all," Pullen said, "as it
has given us a very good sub-
soil moisture reserve."
Other than some light frost
damage last week farmers
could be in for an average to
good year, if the weather
holds.

The Huronview Auxiliary
met in the craft room on
Monday, May, 16, at 1:30 p.m.
with President, Mrs. W.
Colclough in the chair who
opened the meeting with the
Lord's Prayer. Secretary,
Mrs. Ann McNichol read the
minutes and Mrs. Leona
Lockhart gave the treasurers
report in the absence of Mrs-.
Mary Robinson, who has
moved from Londesboro.
Eleven members answered
the roll call by naming their,
favourite colour.

Mrs. 'McNichol gave 'a
report of her visit to the
Regional Villa at Mississauga
and brought back some
worthwhile ideas. To treat
residents as individuals, find
something for them to do to
give them an aim in life, do
not try to force 'people to
move into a home but en-
courage them to do so on their
own were some of the ideas.
Some articles were brought
in for the bazaar and these
were priced. After the close of
the meeting, Mrs. Aldington
served tea and cookies.
