Jail board holds annual members meeting
The Huron Historic Jail
Board held their annual
members meeting last
Wednesday and elected a new
executive and reviewed plans
to expand theatre facilities
within the jail compound.
Only five non jail board
members attended the public
meeting in which Nick Hill of
Goderich gave an overview of
the master plan for jail
restoration and construction
of theatre facilities.
Board members hope to,set
up a meeting with
representativesof the
Ontario Heritage Foundation
and discuss the direction that
the foundation would suggest
the board take in its plans.
Jennifer Black, a
representative of Goderich
Little Theatre expressed
some concern that the
proposed 300 seat theatre
facility would not be large
enough to accommodate or
promote such events as plays
or symphony orchestras in
Goderich.
One board member ex-
plained that the construction
of a theatre facility would
affect the basic structure of
th'e jail and perhaps ruin its
historical significance. The
board hopes to get some
valuable assistance with the
project from Heritage
Foundation representatives.
The executive elected at the
public meeting included
Dorothy Wallace, chairman;
Speciu
Paul Carroll, vice-chairman:
William Morley, treasurer
and Joan Van den Broeck,
secretary.
