HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1977-05-05, Page 41rful fashions displayed at Bluewater centre Bright pink and yellow flowers and white wicker furniture decorated the stage in the auditorium of the Bluewater Centre on Wednesday, April 27 for the fashion show sponsored by the volunteer association of that centre. Over fifty spring and summer outfits ranging from jumpsuits and tennis shorts and tennis shorts to all weather coats and evening gowns were modelled by women from the Beta Theta chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Jane Robinson, a resident of the centre, also modelled. Pat Wheeler, head of the volunteer association at the Bluewater Centre, says all profits from the show will go to the residents of the centre. Bill Gregg, director of the centre, welcomed guests and thanked all those responsible dor putting the show together. It was a colorful show with a lot of pastel shades and a mix of red, white and navy. Burnt yellow, a new colour to emerge on the fashion scene this year, was also presented. Designers seem to be taking fashion comfort into consideration more these days. Most of the ocrtfits consisted of cool, lightweight materials Next to the old standby materials of cotton and nylon, polyester seems to 1)0 the most popular fabric this year ,A new fabric for spring is velour which makes for a plush rich look. It' Wednesday's fashion show is any indication,. expect to see more capped sleeves, cowl necks, bowed blouses, multi striped T shirts, draw string ,waistbands and gaucho pants thisspring and summer. Mix and match three piece suits also seem to -be popular. There were two showings at ! and t; p.m. The fashions were supplied by the Irene Hill clothing store. Manager of the store, Valerie Hutchins, was the coin mentator. Huron society holds spring meeting The Huron Presbyterial of the Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada met for its Spring meeting in Belgrave with the president Mrs. Elmer Rivers of Seaforth in charge. She welcomed all to the meeting and read a poem - The Path Ahead. The hymn, Arm of the Lord, Awake, Awake, was sung with "Mrs. William'Dalrymple,of Blyth as pianist. Mrs. Rivers led in prayer. A. , McDonald ofSeaforth. . • Plans for the fall meeting were made and Mrs. Clayton Edward of Goderich invited ,the Societies to Goderich on October 12 at 1 :30 p,m. It was announced that the Ladies' Weekend Camp would be held on June 17 -19th at Kintail and there will be a workshop in the fall conducted by Miss Jean Gardner. Reports of the Synodical meeting held in April in Stratford were given by Mrs. Rochus Faber, Kippen, and Mrs. Elmer Rivers. Seaforth, A piano solo of medley of old hymns was played by Mrs. Dalrymple. The, devotional period was taken by Mrs. Jack Hallam assisted by Mrs. Frank Raithby of Auburn. The theme was the Glory of Springtime. The offering was received by Miss Janet Cluff and Mrs. Annie Harrison and dedicated with prayer by Mrs. Annie Agar. ' ' The guest speaker, Rev. Miss M. L. Landoll, minister of Atwood Presbyterian %Church, was introduced by Mrs. R. Habkirk. She had all ''m'embers participating in a picture walk. All pictures depicted old and new testanieht stories ' and a11- memhers told what the picture told the individual about Jesus. Mrs. H. Erskine of Goderich thanked the speaker for her inspiring message. Mrs. G. G. MacEwan of Goderich, treasurer, gave the financial statement. After the closing hymn and benediction by Rev.
