Historic steam engine excursion
planned to celebrateAnniversary

historic steam engine ex-
cursion between Guelph and
he port ofGoder•ich.
Jany months have gone
into the completion of plans
for this spectacular trip, a
reinactment of the first CP
passenger train travelling
from Guelph to Goderich in
1'111 ,
The ex CPR steam
locomotive 1057 along with
the eight passenger cars will
he the equipment used to
provide this excursion, The
steamer 1057 has been
completely restored, shining
in its new coat of paint and
will present a unique op-
portunity for many to live in
the past..
The 105.: is one of the last
full `fired steam locomotives
in Canada. Its restoration has
been under the supervision of
the Ontario Rail Association,
an organization dedicated to
the preservation of steam
railway equipment. Tkois
organization is at the present
time revitalizing the seven
mile section of track near
Georgetown, Ontario which
will he known as the Credit
Valley railway.
Twenty years have passed
since the last passenger train
travelled over the CP tracks.
Mac Campbell along with
the executive committee who
have been instrumental in
arranging this important
event feel that the steam
excursion will add con-
siderably to the already
major plans for fun during
the official come home days,
June 29 -July 10.
The engineer of the ex-
cursion will be Donald
Broadbear who is presently
the locomotive engineer on
the CP diesel freight that
travels the original Guelph-
Goderich tracks.
The train will also travel
through Blyth for its 100th
birthday.
Historically it is the 150th
anniversary of the founding
of Guelph and. Goderich and
the 70th anniversary of the
first CP passenger train into
Goderich.

passenger cars will be used to provide an historic steam
engine excursion between Guelph and Goderich as part of

by Knights
District 31 of the Knights of
Columbus held their third
annual Police Apprecation
Night one April 30, at the
Pineridge Chalet in Exeter.
The previous two tributes to
the law cnfmrcernent officers
of Huron and Perth Counties
were closed affairs, but the
'success of these prompted the
Knights of Columbus to open
the occasion to the public.
A total of 49 policemen.,
their wives and girlfriends
and close to 400 others at-
tended a dance at the chalet
as a tribute to the police ef-
fort s.
District Deputy Ed
Murray, who is a member of
the Stratford Council acted as
chairman for the •formal
introduction of each police
force in attendance In his
opening remarks he paid
tribute to all of the wives of
the policemen.
The Grand Knights of
Seaforth and Goderich, Phil
Durand and Gerry Petrie
extended their welcome on
behalf of their councils.
Also in attendance was the
Commissioner of Police,
Elmer Bell, who thanked the
Knights for their leadership
and responsihilityin initiating.

After his remarks, Com-
missioner Bell presented
District Deputy Murray with
the new insignia which all
policemen in Ontario wiH he
wearing this year to mark the
Jubilee.
Responses were also given
vocal enthusiasm . by
spokesmen from the ranks
anti the night was truly one of
mutual appreciation and
respect: -
