We were informed that Mrs. Ila Bean had sent two quilt blocks to the Erland Lee Home for sale at their craft table as a donation from our Institute. The business for the meeting being attended to the Secretary read minutes of the 1976 annual meeting and then the annual report of our Institute for this past term after which reports were heard from the Standing Committees:- Agriculture and Canadian Industries - Mrs. E. Reaburn, Family and Consumers Affairs Mrs. 0. Falkiner; Education and Cultural Activities = Mrs. E. Bogie; Resolutions - Mrs. R. Brock; Citizenship and World Affairs (while there was no report given this was the September meeting when Csts. John Wray and Wm. Mrs. Wightman, District President, then chaired the meeting and gave a talk' reminding the members that this year 1977, marks the SOth anniversary of the founding - r of the Women's Institutes and't` that a Cairn near the Brant County Birthplace of_, Adelaide Hunter Hoodless records that it was on , February 19, 1897, that this remarkable woman established the first unit of the W.I. at Stoney Creek. Today the Canadian Organization has close connections throughout the world, through its affiliation with the Associated Country Women of the World. The Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario, alone, members has a membership estimated at about 30,000. The Institute mbtto "For Home and Country" in a few ' short words sums up the great work this organization is engaged in and few organizations can acclaim such a record of ac- . complishments. Ladies in retirement Two long time librarians in Huron County, Betty McKenzie, left, of Goderich and Lennita Oesch, of Zurich, were honored by fellow staff members at a luncheon last Wednesday at the Harbor Park Inn. Miss McKenzie has been a librarian in Goderich for 31 years while Mrs. Oesch has been with the County Library system since the Zurich facility was taken over in 1967. Before that the Zurich Library was located for many years in her home.
