which shows that the Institute
is highly regarded in their
endeavours "For Home and
Country".
We were informed that
Mrs. Ila Bean had sent two
quilt blocks to the Erland Lee
Home for sale at their craft
table as a donation from our
Institute.
The business for the
meeting being attended to the
Secretary read minutes of the
1976 annual meeting and then
the annual report of our
Institute for this past term
after which reports were
heard from the Standing
Committees:- Agriculture
and Canadian Industries -
Mrs. E. Reaburn, Family and
Consumers Affairs Mrs. 0.
Falkiner; Education and
Cultural Activities = Mrs. E.
Bogie; Resolutions - Mrs. R.
Brock; Citizenship and World
Affairs (while there was no
report given this was the
September meeting when
Csts. John Wray and Wm.
Wilson of the 0.P.P., gave a
1, ry interesting program and
talk, using slides, on
Burglarizing your Home „and
Safety Rules) ; P.R.O. report
- Mrs. Tait Clark; Curator -
Mrs. Tait Clark. Mrs. Hennn'y
Brindley seconded that th't
reports given be adopted.
Mrs. Sherwood thanked the
members for their support
during the year and for their
interest in the Institute.
Mrs. Wightman, District
President, then chaired the
meeting and gave a talk'
reminding the members that
this year 1977, marks the SOth
anniversary of the founding - r
of the Women's Institutes and't`
that a Cairn near the Brant
County Birthplace of_,
Adelaide Hunter Hoodless
records that it was on ,
February 19, 1897, that this
remarkable woman
established the first unit of
the W.I. at Stoney Creek.
Today the Canadian
Organization has close
connections throughout the
world, through its affiliation
with the Associated Country
Women of the World. The
Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario, alone,
members
has a membership estimated
at about 30,000.
The Institute mbtto "For
Home and Country" in a few
' short words sums up the
great work this organization
is engaged in and few
organizations can acclaim
such a record of ac-
. complishments.
Ladies in retirement
Two long time librarians in Huron County, Betty McKenzie, left, of Goderich and Lennita
Oesch, of Zurich, were honored by fellow staff members at a luncheon last Wednesday at
the Harbor Park Inn. Miss McKenzie has been a librarian in Goderich for 31 years while
Mrs. Oesch has been with the County Library system since the Zurich facility was taken
over in 1967. Before that the Zurich Library was located for many years in her home.
