Bruce Heath leaves Huron for Ministry job
The resignation of Bruce R.
Heath, Local Director of the
Children's Aid Society, has
been accepted with regrets by
the Board of Directors of the
County Society effective May
27, 1977, with the an-
nouncement of his ap-
pointment to the Children's
Services Branch of the
Ministry of Community and
Social Services.
The appointment to the
staff of the provincial
Director of Child Welfare will
entail supervision and con-
sultation with Children's Aid
Societies and residential care
facilities for children and
youth in assigned areas of the
province, and related
assignments within the
Ministry.
HeatH was appointed local
director of the Huron
Children's Aid Society in 1970
following supervisory
positions with the Catholic
Children's Aid Societies in
Hamilton -Wentworth and
Metropolitan Toronto. A
graduate of St. Michael's
College, University of
Toronto, Heath subsequently
completed his Bachelor and
Bruce Heath
PC Association ready
Master of Social Work in
Toronto, and further studies
at the University of Chicago.
Active in local and
provincial social welfare
affairs, Heath presently sits
on the provincial Steering
Council of the Management
Information System for child
welfare, the provincial ad-
visory committee on
Retardation Services for the
London District office of the
Ministry, is a member of the
board -elect of the, Huron
Centre For Children and
Youth, the Continuing
Education Committee of the
Faculty of Social Work,
Wilfrid Laurier University,
and the,Eilrly School Leaving,
Committee • of the Huron
Perth Separate School Board.
He is a past member of the
Advisory Board of the Social
Services Division of
Conestoga College, was af-
filiated with the extension
division of Georgian College
as an instructor in foster
care, a past -chairman of the
former Huron County Social
Claim to be alternative
to "stagnant" present
Wednesday, March 30 the
Goderich Progressive Con-
servative Association held its
annual meeting at Saltford
Valley Hall. Over 50
Progressive Conservative
supporters gathered to elect
their new executive and listen
to a guest speaker.
Deb Shewfelt, the im-
mediate past president,
opened the meeting after
several spirited melodies by
Ed Stiles. Mr. Shewfelt ex-
pressed his sincere thanks to
the Association for allowing
him to contribute to the
"Progressive Conservative
cause" in the past few years.
Kim Ainslie introduced the
guest speaker, John Slade,
Area Caucus Chairman for
the Western Ontario P.C.'s
The subject of Mr. Slade's
address was party
organization and on this
subject he discussed the role
of _ the poll chairman,
enumerators, scrutineers and
deputy returning officers.
Questions posed from the'
audience concerned party
financing, canvassing and the
inevitable: "When will the
election be•called"?

and after two hours of
decision the following was the
result:

Middlesex is the only ac-
ceptable alternative to the
HPSS board meeting
current "stagnant
representation" now suffered
by the citizens of the riding.

advisory boards fo the former
Goderich Friendship and
Info-nlation Centre, and
h:rod I Boys Home.
'He has also served on
various committees and
projects of the Ontario
Association of Children's Aid
Societies including its Ser-
vices Committee, the Select
Committee on the Hanson
Task Force Report, was
Program Chairman of the
19'5 Provincial Conference
and participated in the
federal -provincial con-
sultation of the proposed
amendments to the Juvenile
Delinquency Act.
Heath is a member and
past•president of the
Goderich Rotary Club, and
Parishioner of St. Peter's
Church, Goderich, where he
has served on the Parish
Council and as a lector. Mr.
Heath, his wife Elsie, and
children Larina and Marc,
will take up residence in the

The Huron -Perth. County
Roman Catholic Separate.
School Board turned down a
request from the Town of
Seaforth that the board help
to pay the costs of a crossing
guard on Highway 8 at St.
James Separate School,
Seaforth. The Board advised
that it is not 'prepared to pay
toward the cost of a crossing
guard since crossing guards,
fall under the jurisdiction of
the municipality.
Carol Hubert was hired by
Seaforth Council as a guard%
at St. Jameson February 14,
and Stanley Bray as a guard
at Seaforth Public School (on
Highway 81, at the request of
the principal at the Seaforth
Public School, who was
concerned for the safety of his
students crossing the busy
highway. The guard program
will start the first of Sep-
tember.

reported negotiations with
the 155 teachers "are going
