Only two dissonting votes: ,
Nutritionist approved by
Huron County Council has
agreed to provide $4,225 to the
Board of Health for the hiring
i x of a nutritionist in the county
and establishment of a
nutrition program.
Council agreed to go ahead
ay5l?, with their 50 percent share of
I the funding even though it has
not been established whether
or not the Provincial
Government will come' up
with their share.
The Board determined in
1979 that the services of a
nutritionist would be- ad-
vantageous in the County and
subsequently made ap-
plication for provincial funds'
in 1979 and again in 1975. In
both cases the applications
were not approved due to a
lack of funds.
In its report to Council last
Friday, the Board recom-
mended that an application

Minister at Huronview
gets first increase
Huron County Council
learned through a report
from the Committee of
Management of Huronview
last Thursday that notice has
been received from the
Ministry that effective
February 1, 1977 the daily
extended care rate co-
payments had changed.
The rate itself, the report
noted, remains at $21.00 per
day but the resident share, or
co -payment, has been in-
creased by 20 cents to $7.60
per day, ! thus reducing the
insured portion to $13.40.
Council endorsed a com-
mittee approved rate of $6.05
per hour for part time
Registered Nurses, effective
January I, 1977. This
represents a six percent
increase over the 1976 rate of
$5.70.
The service employees
slaries and benefits for the
years 1976 and 1977 have been
approved by the Anti-
inflation board it was also
noted.
Religious services at
Huronview will cost more as
well.
First Baptist Church in
Goderich— requested an in-
crease in the fee paid the
Church for services of Rev.
W.H. McWhinnie. The fee
has remained at $800 per
annum for several years, it
was pointed out.
Council agreed to increase
the minister's services fee
$1,000 per year.
It was also reported that
Warren Zinn had been ap-
pointed Vice Chairman of the
Committee of Management at
Huronview.

be made to the Ministry of
Health for $8,950 to fund the
services of a 'part-time
nutritioni8t for Huron County.
It also recommended that
the County of Huron con-
tribute its share of the
project, that is $4,225,
whether or not the program
was approved by the
province.
County councillors sup-
ported both recom-
mendations. .,
Bayfield Reeve Ed
Oddleifson asked if the
County share would help at
all if the province did not
come through with it hare.
"Will it get junk food out of
our schools?" he asked.
Medical Officer of Health
Dr. Frank Mills assured him
it would help.
NutritionistConsultant
Helen Brown was on hand to
answer questions and to
explain the proposed duties of
a nutritionist employed by the
Board of Health.
She said that person would
assess overall nutrition needs
in the community and noted
that many public health
problems are actually related
to nutrition.
After such an assessment,
she said, the nutritionist
health. dep
would initiate and develop
nutrition programs. This
would include work in the
school system, through the
media, volunteer groups,
parent teacher associations,
the meals on wheels
program, the elderly and
weight watching groups.
It took a clause by clause
vote on the Board of Health
report to pass the recom-
mendation but it was ap-
proved with only Seaforth
Reeve John Flannery and
Allan Campbell, Reeve of
McKillop Township, opposing
the motion.
Although the leases on the
present Health Unit vehicles
do not expire until July 31 this
year, council agreed to ad-
vertise for pew leases now in
order to ensure availability of
vehicles by Aug ist—I`:
The Board • authorized
advertising for seven, four
cylinder cars, one six
cylinder four -door sedan and
four half -ton trucks of either
four or six cylinders.
Sealed quotations are being
requested for both full
maintenance and net leases
excluding insurance for 24
months, maximum 40,000
miles, with snow tires for
winter driving.
