Goalmouth action •
itche1i edged
y shots on goal
By Liz Turcotte
In a defensive battle of C
division hockey. Mitchell and
Lambeth were tied 0-0 at the
end of regulation time.
Lambeth won the game in
overtime by getting 10 shots
on goal over Mitchell's 1.
The teams were evenly
matched and played a steady
checking game.
Mitchell's goalie, Jay
McKeown and Lambeth's
goalie Mark Baughman, were
put to the test a few times as
the forward lines rushed
through the defense.
There weren't many shots
on goal though, as most of the
plays_. were stopped before
they went too far. At other
times, they would pass the
puck and it would end up on
the opponents stick.
At times, the action was
chippy, especially at center
ice, with both teams fighting
for possession of the puck.
No goals had been scored -
by the end of the first period.
The second period was
similar to the first, with
neither side giving up a goal.
*Dale-. Fischer, Mitchell's
captain did a fine job of
getting in and digging for the
puck along the boards. There
were a few close calls in the
Lambeth end before their
goalie covered, -up to stop the
-play.
Neither team was playing
theirs ,positions well,
especially in the opponents
end..
The pace of the game also
slowed down. After getting in
past the other team's blue
line, not many shots reached
the goalie. Many of them
were blocked, and more were
stopped before they had a
chance of being started.
In the third period, the
players were skating faster,
trying to score the goal that
gave them the win.
Lambeth's Danny O'Brien
hustled hism and tried to set
up some goals.
Mitchell became more
aggressive in the dying
minutes of regulation time
and bombarded the Lambeth
goal with shots. Unfor-
tunately for them, none got by
and the game was forced into
overtime.
The overtime period was
the most exciting of the
game. Both of the teams were
anxious to get as many shots
on goal as they could.
Lambeth did everything
except put the puck in the net,
as they pelted Mitchell's
goalie with shots. And
Lambeth's defense stopped
most of the Mitchell's team's
attempts at scoring.
The right to advance to the
finals in the C consolation
game was won by Lambeth, -
as they outshot Mitchell 10-1.

The Uxbridge C Division
club, who were previously
unbeaten, lost a one sided
game to the Ilderton team in
semi-final action at YCW last
week.
Ilderton only beat them 2-0,
but the game was controlled
by Ilderton all The way. Both
Ilderton goals came in the
opening period, and both
came from Steve O'Neil, the
Ilderton center.
Uxbridge couldn't get any
thing moving in the game,
though they seemed to put
forth all the effort they could
muster.
They rarely got past the
enemy blue -line, and when
they did the IIderton defence
usually made short work of
them.
When Uxbridge managed to
get past the defence, their
shooting left much to be
desired, and. the Ilderton
goalie didn't have to work
very hard through the game.
Uxbridge hadn't played at
the tournament since the first
day of YCW, so it seems
possible that they were rusty,
or perhaps they were over-
confident because they hadn't
had any trouble beating their
opposition previous to that
game.
In any case they played
poorly, and Ilderton had no
trouble beating them and
advancing to the finals in the
C Division.

Captain Craig Morgan
scored two Point Ed'ward
goals as they- defeated
.Lambeth 3-2 in the C division
consolation final.
- Lambeth dominated the
game but standout
goaltending by Point
Edward's Joe Barnes, who
stopped 30 Lambeth shots,
was the difference. Lambeth
held Point Edward to 19
shots, including only one in
the first period, _but. -were-

drives.
There were few shots in the
opening minutes as both
teams tried to get untracked.
Lambeth held Point
Edward to only a shot in the
period, hitting the net 12
times themselves, but the
single shot was a good one.
At 6 :1 4 Mark Whitlock put
Point Edward on the
scoreboard with a hard
slapshot high to the stick side
of Mark Baughman in the
Lambeth net.
Darryl Ireland got the first
Lambeth goal shortly after.
He put a fast wrist shot low to
the stick side of goalie Joe
Barnes.
At 9:14 he marked another
one. He missed on his first
try, hitting the post and
sending the puck into the
corner, but J.J. Brown passed
it back to him and he made
sure on the second drive,
putting it in the same place he
put the last one.
Early in the second period
Lambeth had another close
the past on his -shot after
receiving a pass from Greg
Tetreau. -
PointEdward had the
chances. - in the opening
minutes, but '`put < *seven
straight shots wide of the net:
At 1:33 the Point tied it up.
Rick Burdett passed to Craig
Morgan, open in front, and he
slipped it in the net. -
Morgan got the winner at
5:45 of the period when h,.got
a pass from Wh3itiockon a
three,mam"-rush' "and'` put a
hard slapshot by Mark
Baughman.
The third period was a fine
period of hockey. Lambeth
outshot Point `Edward I5.9,
although Point Edward had
just as many chances. The
problem was the -same as in
the first two periods: they
couldn't hit the net.
Marla. Baughman, won the
game for Point Edward in
that period. Lambeth had
seven -super scoring chances
and Baughman robbed them
of what should have been at
least two goals.,
