CHURCH NEWS
First Penance celebrations
were held on Sunday af-
ternoon, March 20 , in 'S t.
Joseph's Parish Church at
Kingsbridge. The following
Grade Three children took
part. (Their father's name in
brackets.)

Mrs. Barbara Eedy - Religion
Instructor.
Parents and members of
the families were present for
this happy occasion.

LEAGUE
Members of the
Kingsbridge Catholic
Women's League visited with
and supplied Irish en-
tertainment for the residents
at the Pinecrest Manor
Nursing Home in•Lucknow on
Thursday afternoon, March
24.

followed by a sing song led by
Father Ed.
HOCK E
House League final play off
hockey games were com-
pleted at the Lucknow arena
on Saturday, March 26.
Beginning at 10 a.m. the
Bruins met the Black Hawks
in the consolation round and
defeated them by a score of 3
to 2. The Bruins played their
second game of the day at 12
noon against the Rangers. At
the end of regulation time the
score was tied at one each. To
break the tie give penalty
shots were allowed each team
with the Rangers winning out
to take the Consolation
trophy.
In the championship games
the Leafs played against the
Red Wings and defeated them
5 to 3 to advance against the
Canadians.y Congratulations
to the Canadians Who
defeated the Leafs.
The parents and families of
the boys who played in house
league hockey this past
winter are invited to come to
the House League Hockey
Night to be held on Monday
April 4. Beginning at 7:45
there will be an hour's
skating for everyone.
An all star game will be
played between 8:45 and 9:45,
the Canadians, Rangers and
Black Hawks against the
Leafs, Bruins and Red Wings.
At 10 o'clock Lunch at the
Legion Hall with presentation
of awards. '
The Kintail Flyers defeated
Lucknow in Town and
Country Lockey three games
straight in a best three out of
five leries to win the Con-
solation trophy,
For the championship
trophy, Holyrood is playing
against Ashfield, and has won
two games to one for Ash-
field. The next game is on
Thursday, March 31 at the
Lucknow arena. Your support
is needed.

A dessert Euchre party
sponsored by the Dungannon
Women's Institute was held
at the Brookside Public
School on Wednesday af-
ternoon, March 23 beginning
at 1:30 p.m. Desserts of
creamed pies and squares
were enjoyed, followed by
Euchre. There were 23 tables
of cards in play. Prizes were
given.
The Saltford Valley Hall
was filled to capacity and
over $1200.00 was realized on
Friday, March 25 at the
Benefit dance for Mr. and
Mrs. Cletus Dalton who lost
Pro -Life
their barn by fire early
Friday morning, January 21.
The music for dancing was
supplied by Carruthers
Orchestra.
A euchre party sponsored
by the Junior Farmers was
held at the Brookside Public
School on Monday evening,
March 21.
Schools re -opened on
Monday morning, March 28
following the one week winter
holiday break.

Arva, the former Donna
Lannan of Kingsbridge
visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Eldon Austin and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Courtney
and family on Sunday, March

daughters Bridgette, Jackie
and Maria and her nephew
Mark Lalonde returned to
their home here on Sunday
afternoon, March 27 following
a week's vacation with Eddie
and Maureen (Dalton)
Chilton and family in Moose
Factory, Ontario.
Mrs. Anne Sheardown and
children of St. Thomas spent
the past week with her
mother Mrs. Yvette Hef-
fernan. Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Heffernan and family of
Essex visited with his mother
and sisters frpm .Wednesday
until Friday of last week Mrs.

Heffernan returned to Essex
with Albert on Friday to
spend a couple of weeks
there.
Reverend Father Lloyd
Ryan of Guelph visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare
and Mary Luanne on Thur-
sday, March 24 and attended
the Bridge and Euchre party
and the Scotch and Irish
concert at the Lucknow Town
Hall.
There were large crowds
and brisk bidders at the
auction' sales held for Glen
Walden on Thursday, March
24 and for Waiter Arnold on
Saturday, March 2G. The sale
this week is for Frank
Riegling on Thursday, March
31, St. Joseph's, Kingsbridge
Catholic., Women's League
will have a lunch booth on the
grounds.
IRISH -SCOTTISH
PROGRAM
Local talent from
Kingsbridge and area took
part in the Irish and Scottish
program held in the
Assembly room at the
Lucknow Town Hall on
Thursday evening, March 24.
Mr. George Brophy, Master
of Ceremonies for the
program introduced a baton
twirling act by Tommy and
Rosemary Gilmore followed
To enter float for Jubilee
The monthly meeting of the
Goderich and District Pro
Life Group was held at the
former St. Elizabeth School
on March 22 with President
Gordon Crabb presiding.
It was . agreed that the
Variety Night was successful
as it provided good family
entertainment. This will
continue to be an annual
eyent with a possible change
in the date.
The Goderich and District
Pro Life Group agreed . to
enter a float in the Jubilee
Parade and to have a booth at
the country fair.
The spring conference of
the 24 Pro Life Groups in
South Western Ontario will be
held at the Bethel Tabernacle
in Stratford. All members are
welcome to attend. this in-
fomative meeting.
The Festival for Life will be
held in Ottawa on May 5 - May
7. This is sponsored by
Alliance for Life, the National
organization to which the Pro
Life groups belong. A bus will
be leaving from Stratford and
the Goderich and District
members- will use this
transportation.
It was noted that recently
the Scarborough General
Hospital has reconfirmed its
policy of ' not performing
therapeutic -abortions. It was
reported that 80 per cent of
the .nursing staff on ob-
stetrical service would resign
if the hospital started doing
abortions.
,According to Statistics
Canada, the number of legal
abortions in Canada was
49,311. This is an increase of
1175 over the 19744igure of,
48,136.

bridge. High prizes for
Euchre went to Mrs. Sarah
Anstett with a score of 59
points and to George Kennedy
with a score of 60. Mr. Donald
MacKinnon won the. high
bridge prize. Winner of the
door prize was Teresa
Courtney. Mr. George
Brophy, M.C. introduced the

Dungannon Branch of
Women's Institute held a very
successful dessert - euchre
party at Brookside school on
Wednesday, March 23, 1977 at
1:30 p.m. There were 23
tables.
Prizes., were given to two
highest and a low: in white
cards to Nora Finnigan, Ellen
Bogie and Sally Wright and in
pink cards to Flongnce Reed,
Elsie Irvin and Yvonne Kerr.
Other winners on draws were
Bertha Olson, Sharon
Edwards, Ruby Hackett and
Mansell Fowler. Lueky chair
winner was Mrs. Mansell
Fowler.
Driving home was tricky
due to the snow and sleet
which came during the af-
ternoon, however all report
an enjoyable time thanks to
the planning of the various
committees.
During the afternoon a
beautiful quilt and afghan
were on display for' which

companied , by Mrs. Walter
(Mary) Clare at the piano.
The quartet of Father Ed
Dentinger, Eugene Frayne,
Cyril Boyle and George
Brophy accompanied by
Mary Clare. sang "Down in
the Valley"; "Molly
Malone"; and "Cockels and
Muscles". The quartet was
joined by Raymond Dalton
for "Amazing Grace" and
"Lock Lomand",
Father Ed Dentinger and
Raymond Dalton sang "Mrs.
Murphy's Chowder with all
joining in the chorus to bring
the evening to a close.
Lunch was served by
members of St. Mary's,
Lucknow Catholic Women's
League who sponsored the
evening.
