"Playground equipment in the parks and any further equipment purchased for parks should be the responsibility . of the recreation department,” she said. "The parks committee is mainly concerned with grounds, trees and flowers and equipment does not fit into that spectrum." Recreation Chairman Mary Donnelly recognized the overlap in equipment responsibility but questioned the cost responsibility of not only `maintaining the existing equipment but also with regard to the purchase of new, equipment. Dymond said that before the board accepts the responsibility for equipment, guidelines and procedures should- be established, also giving the board respon- sibility'over the purchase and maintenance of such equipment. In other board business, Dymond said that the Sports Travelcade will be in Goderich April 18 and 19. This year a clinic will be held in Victoria Public School on low organized games and two other open clinics, one on orienteering and one on lacrosse will be offered. Dymond also hopes to organize a slow pitch league this season which may be limited to one night per week depending on the availability of diamonds. In the Sunday Mixed Ciwiing`the, whiners were as follows: I. Phil and Chris Turner with Roger Moore and Ken Bogie; 2. Phil and Dianne Foster with Ross and - Isabelle Eedy; 3. Lawrence and Jean Platzer with Tom and Ila Cunningham. In the Monday Night Men's concluding March 28, the winner was the rink of Jack MacKinnon, Don Tremeer, Bill Finlayson, Larry McGrath and Bill Taraba. Mrs. Ronald Rath'well of Parkhill and her mother Mrs. Celia Taylor of Goderich visited last Saturday with Mr. • and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. We are pleased to report that Mr. Kenneth McDougall has been able to return home after his recent illness and is convalescing at his home here. Mr, and Mrs. Ben Hamilton spent last weekend with friends in Belleville. Miss Kim Robinson of Newmarket visited last week with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson. 4 -CLUB The Auburn I, 4-H club met for its fourth meeting at the home of the leader Mrs. Donald Cartwright. The president Kim McDowell opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. The minutes were read by Sheron Stadelmann. The roll call was answered by name and showing the type of seams used .. on the loungewear. Plans were made for Achievement Day when Auburn I will present a skit -Sleep and Lounge in Comfort. Mrs. John Hildebrand demonstrated how to cut a true bias and insert lace on curved seams and hems. The. 'meeting was closed by the 4-H motto. BASEBALL The Baseball organization meeting for 1977 was held on. "Monday evening in the `'Auburn Community Memorial hall with 14 present, to make plans for this baseball season. Those present were James Towe, Mrs. Robert Slater, Fred Lawrence, Sandy Andrews, Glen Webster, Brian Hallam, Greg Haslam, David Cartwright, Douglas Glousher, Linda Hakkers, Frank Slater, Terry Powell, Bradley Andrews and Bill Sproul. Registration fee is to be the same as last year, 32 per person or .35 per family. John Hoy led the Metals on the evening rolling a 314 single and 769 triple. Had the Metals even won total pintail they would have been entitled to first place money and needed only three points "on the night to wrap the season up. John Miller had his club's best game with a 2'58 and Augie Stegenstad led on the evening with a 709 triple. The B.D.'s used the two points on the evening to move into seventh place with 81 season points. Stan Dungale grabbed a 243 single to lead his club to Don Johnston hit a 564 triple to keep the Dogies from getting first place alone. French Dry Cleaners and the Tail Ends battled for third place and the Cleaners got behind Don McWhinney and Kevin . Rumig to take over sole possession of third. McWhinney hit a 249 team high single and Rumig a 654 triple to help the Cleaners to five points and a 105 total. Don Mcllwain rolled a 207 single and Lynn Hodgins a 550 triple to help -the Ends to two points and a 101 fourth place total. Roy's Boys ended their season on a winning note with a sweep of the Hopefuls. Gerry Pitre led the Boys with a 271 single and 723 triple boosting their season effort to 94 points and fifth place. The Hopefuls finished the year with the same points they had last week despite Terry , Ryan's 313 single and Lee Ryan's 784 triple. The Hopefuls ended up in eighth place with 73 points. The Signal Stars continued their belated streak grabbing sixth place and after ,wallowing in ninth for a quarter of the season. Tom Flynn led the Stars with a 256 single and 693 triple helping them to five points and an 84 point season total. The Recalls nailed down ninth spot, last in the league, one off the eighth place Hopefuls. Everyone present .at the meeting was willing to assist, but more coaches are required and also anyone willing to umpire is asked to contact the secretary, Mrs. Slater, at her store in Auburn or telephone 526-7226 before April 16th. The next meeting is to be held on Monday, April 18, at Memorial hall at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The Auburn United Church Women will hold a Good Friday Service on April 8 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker is to be Mrs, Charles Wilkins of Lucknow, president of Huron - West Presbyterial: An open communion service will be celebrated by the Rev. Earl St. Jean in charge. A warm invitation is extended to everyone in the community. All teams were involved in a single knock -out playdown competition over the past few weeks resulting in Cam Bogie's rink of Jack MacKinnon, Ron Klages and Denis Lebrun meeting Jim Hawkin's rink of Bill Robertson, Ralph Foster and Bob Jewell in the finals with Cam Bogie's rink winning the Skip's Choice Championship. The Friday Night Mixed Curling .concluded March 25, and the winners were as follows: 1. Steve Willard with Maxine Martin, : Norm and Nancy Pickett; 2. Bill and Kay King with Greg and Michelle Hansen; 3. Jack and Joan Grace with Don and Wendy Tremeer. Con- solation: John and Nancy MacKinnon with Bill and Ann!; Kuran. NEWS Last week the mixed team of Jim and Barb Hawkins with Tom and Betty Moore was very busy. On Wed- nesday March 23, the curlers placed third in their draw at a ,bonspiel in Teeswater. This past weekend, they placed second in their draw at a two day bonspiel held in Ripley. Also this past weekend club members Don and Wendy Tremeer curled with Bill and Millie Lobb from Clinton and won their draw in a two day bonspiel in Seaforth.
